hey all, I bought a 91 CX not to long ago, and I just want to beef her up a little bit. I have read alot of posts and have found some useful info. Although mabe I am not reading close enough, it is hard to find how much hp is added when you add things like the A6, Z6 etc... I am new to civics and I don't even know what car these things are from. I searched turbo and that seems to be out of the question, (since my engine sux!) so I guess my question is what can I add to make my 102hp more like 150hp without going gung ho on the cash. the car is stock, i have a ractive exhasut, and msd wires, thats it.
any help would be great. I also piced up a 90 DX D15B2 that I have been swaping inerds from. the interior is nicer than the CX. here is a couple of pics from 2 weeks ago, will post some updated ones later.

Easy start would be an A6 (Si) cam and a Z6 intake and MPFI swap. Also get your hands on a `89-`91 Si tranny.

^^^^^ what he said - and, i don't think you're going to make 150whp without "gunking" on cash... you can try to follow transzex's build. but the stuff that dweezil said are the best things you can do for now.... (and cheap too!)

Good one, but has anyone ever dynoed a car with both to see what the differance is?

Ok I am able to get the Intake manifold, and the A6 cam (shaft or gear?), and I can get the tranny all for $100.00 bucks. not bad. As for the MPFI swap what is that... also the pm6 si ecu, what year of Civic is that from? I am sure I can get that for free. My friend owns a wrecking yard and there is a few civics there. Here is a pic I took today. I just tinted my side widows about to do the rear.

88-91 crx/ hb si for the ecu
mpfi is a si and hf
dx is dpfi wich means you have only 2 injectors not 4

Your car currently is useing Honda's DPFI (Dual Point Fuel Injection) induction system, good for economy it just sucks for makeing power. The MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) swap is just like it sounds, it puts 1 injector in front of each port.
Basicly your converting your car to an Si. You'll need the PM6 (`88-`91 Civic/CRX Si) ECU, or you can use a PM7 from a `88-`89 Integra. You'll also need a MPFI intake, and for EF's you'll need the resistor box for the injectors, injectors, and the injector clips. Also some wire and the Si distributor. You can use any MPFI intake, but the Z6 is preferable. You can also use a B-series throttle body if you want at this point.
There are no shortage of how-to's on the subject, just search here and on Google if you have questions on how it's done, but in a nut shell you run wire from the ECU to the injectors, flip the TPS wires around, bolt on the intake and throttle body, wire up and connect the distributor, check your wireing and start it up and go.

Thanx all. Dweezil, that explains everything. I am heading out today to find me some parts, so hopfully by Monday I'll be one my way with a little more hp. What about Cold Air vs a short ram intake? And I guess I should get rid of my pea shooter exhaust and graduate to a cannon 2.25.

For your application I'd go w/ the CAI. It'll give you more power in the low to mid range. For that, basically any CAI off ebay will work but make sure you replace the crap filter they provide w/ a K&N. If you want to drop the coin for name brand bling though, AEM is always a good call. I'd also look around your friends wrecking yard and see if you can find a Z6 or Y8 exhaust manifold as well unless you want to drop some extra coin for an aftermarket one. There's a DC-S header on ebay that you can get for around 41.00 shipped that actually doesn't do too bad.

Are you sure it has a d15b7 in it, is it swaped? If yes, obd 1 conversion with chipped ecu FTW.

yeah I sure. The car is a '91 but the previous owner put that motor in it. I think before it had the d15b2. Is that a good thing?

CAI in Ontario = usually bad. I've got a short ram and even I am forced to dodge puddles being lowered and all. Maybe look into getting the J's racing intake aka whale penis. Where in Ontario are you from?

Ontario Canada, I am near brockville, are you in California, or Canada I just noticed CA. I had CAI on my 01 neon, like you said, puddle dodging, I love the sound it makes. I made my own CAI for that application. Do you think it would be around the same for the Civic?
