the stage 1 cam doesn't require springs and retainers but you would benifit from a tuned ecu. I'd suggest picking up a P28 chipped for crome or uberdata or hondata and get a good tune after doing the cam swap.

thats a very mild cam. If you are going through the ffort, go with the stage 2, its very streetable, just make sure its tuned.
So for tuning with stage 1, I'd strongly recomend it. its never good to drive around with an ecu mapped for different perameters and such then what the motor is actually seeing, though it wont be much of a difference with the stage 1.
If you do the rest of the stuff and not the cam, you'll be fine without a tune.

Dont waste your money on a stage 1. Buy a stage 2 you wont regret it.

:werd: I'd also do a little port matching while your at it. There's alot of casting marks that block the flow quite a bit.

Agreed, skip the stage 1 and go for the stage 2. I was in the same situation as you and went with the Crower stage 2 springs and retainers. Check my sig for details.

Here's my dyno sheet http://ej8squad.com/showthread.php?tid=14

wurd ...the stock honda d-series ignition will perform quite well up to 300 hp in most cases.

and yes go with a stage 2 for sure...it makes excellent power for a daily driver / weekend racecar...has just enough lump at idle to make me get a boner every morning when I fire it up.:noway:

If you go w/ the Stage 2, I'd find some p29's to bump up the CR a little and do a slight DIY P&P on it as well. Also, to answer your question about tuning, any given set-up is only as good and the tune running it. With that said, tuning is your friend. The more time you spend on the dyno, the more power you'll be able to pull out of your build.

i'd either do p29s or slightly mill the head and use a 2layer hg w/ the crower stg 2

There's one for turbo and N/A: http://www.crower.com/cat/import/honda/cams/d16y.shtml
Crower also makes springs and retainers so I'd just buyit all from them.

yeah I noticed that in honda-tuning....brian has branched out to start brian crower inc. or something ....supposibly his cams will be flawless and have no issues with breaking,etc....which knock on wood I have had nothing but good luck so far. I <3 MY CROWER STG. 2

well its been said that your idle has to be pretty high to keep it running . I would say yes its streetable with the right engine mgmt...tune etc...

if I didnt have a stg.2 I would probably try the stg.3 for sure. though my compression isnt near high enough for it.
