OK, i'm deffo not a total noob to this. I'm just looking for opinions.
I am gonna be shooting for 250-300whp so i figure that will take about 15psi. now that my deal is that i want a turbo that will spool kinda quick, i'm thinking start boosting around 3k and reach 15psi at about 4.5k and hold that all the way to redline.
So what are some thoughts on a turbo? Just throw some comments out there.
thanks,
Michael

i would get a t3/t4 ar. .60/.48 stage 3 that should be good enough for your power goals.

i'm also dumb at buying new turbos. what are some brands?
feel free to throw in some links if you are bored.

go with the t3/.t4 50 trim. it has a very wide powerband and your goals are pretty much dead center in its efficiency range :TU:

Yea, i was thinking about the 16g also but not sure...
So what would be better? the t3/t4 50 trim or the 16g?

personally i had a 16g on a Z6 and it makes for a nice smooth power curve but i would definatley say go with a .48A/R 50 trim garrett if your looking to make 300. a 16g would need to be pushed to its limits (22+ psi) to achieve that.

Should i not be able to make close to 300 on about 15psi?

not with a 16g. i was running 12psi but never dynoed it, according to all the horsepower calcs according to my ET and trap (13.3@102) they ALL say 203WHP which is about right.
At 11psi on the 16g I was at 230hp... but then again I have 10:1 comp...
If I were to do it again, i'd be getting a gt28rs... Better spool, and great power!

T3T04e 50 trim, .63A/R will give you that top end.
I'm making 210 on a 57trim at 7psi, 15psi on a 50 would easily make 300. Spool would be about where you want it too, 4500 or so.

every time you talk about your setup i realize i'm just going to have to copy it part for part.

Lol!
Eh, I still have to figure out why it's spooling so late. 5400 RPMs for 7psi is a little outrageous, especially when some people are seeing it 500+rpms earlier in similar setups.

If you want really quick boost then go that route.

t3 super 60 will get you close to your goal. im guessing 280ish with the right settup and tune. it will spool fairley decient as well. i really love the garrett t3 and t3/t4 hybrid turbos because theyre soo common and easy to find parts for.
if you want more topend with slower spool, then get a garrett t3/t4.

i am actually in his same position. Want a quick spooling turbo with good powerbrand. Same hp goals as him, so i was thinking about the GT28RS? I know it cost alot but then it is my money. So i just want to hear peoples opinion about that turbo?
Thx!

i just purchased a turbo from this website.
If i were you i would call the number there and talk to the owner of the store. he is very hard to understand so listen carefully, but he can tell you everything you need to know.
I told him my power goals and my motor i was running. He reccommended the 46 trim turbo with the stage 1 wheel and my power goal is exactly where yours is at (300whp). That turbos hp range i believe is from 150-380.
i decided to go with the 54 trim just because i thought i might decide to go for 350-400whp sometime down in the future, but the 54 trim isnt a huge difference between the 46 trim.
all of the stage 1 turbos are the same price (510 shipped) but one thing he kept pointing out to me time after time was that i should stay within my power goals. I was wanting a 57 trim stage 3, but it didnt support my hp range as well so the spool time was going to be quiet a bit more noticable than the 46 or 54 trim.......and they will pull very very close to the same at high rpms.
give him a call and talk to him. He can help you in your decision...........

i think those turbos are pretty similar performance wise. I dont think you can really go wrong with either one.
Personally, i would go with the 46 trim from blaast performance just because of the customer service that comes with the turbo. I just bought my 54 trim from them, along with a complete oil line kit and block off flange for $630.
should be here today...............:D
İurbow

OK, what is a block off flange?
94z6ex
11-27-2006, 12:18 PM
basically, its the flange that connects your downpipe to the turbo, Most are 5 bolts. they call them block off flanges because they block where the internal wastegate would be.
i bought mine from blaastperformance simply because i have heard stories about the ones from ebay not fitting correctly. I figured for $20 extra dollars, it was worth it, especially if it fits perfectly.

ok, here is what i'm thinking...
T3/T04E 50 trim.
should i be able to make 300whp on 15psi with this turbo and if so at about what RPM should it be spooled to 15?

Weird that he hasn't responded to your email... Maybe check your reply address is set right. I was emailing back and forth with them several times a day before settling on a T3/T04E 46 trim, with ported turbine housing (more top end) and stage 1 1/2 wheel upgrade (59->65mm wheel for quicker spool).
Maybe he didn't respond to you because he was exhausted from my emails!! ;-)

So you won't listen to a turbo builder... Maybe you know more and you should just go with whatever you think?
He was probably saying T3/T04 not T3/T4...
