I have a d15 on a sohc zc block. i just got my hands on a d16 head and want to know if my old distributor will work the new head.

Depends on what the 2 heads are.

if the heads are within the same years, 88-91 92-95

Distributors for D's:

VTEC=distributor type #1
Non-VTEC=Distributor type #2
Other than MPFI=Distributor type 3 and 4.

now: all the internals are basically the same.... on 90% of em!
