I just have a quick question. Why is it some cars the BOV will open when you rev. the motor, whereas mine will only open under load? I have a turboxs rfl, is the spring just too tight? or should i try running a big ass vac. source off the brake booster?

I hear my bov under load really nice but if i'm just reving it i hear it a little. Try backing off on the spring if you want more sound but dont back it off too much that the bov doesnt function worth of shit. I found a happy medium that i was happy with you just have to fuck with it. Time and patience. I know someone with a neon with a rfl bov and when he revs it up it pierces my fucken eardrums.

I heard it was just something about Honda's not being able to blow off under a free rev.

I have a turboxs rfl also. and no, i cant hear it much at all unless it is uner some load

how do you mean back off the spring? there is no adjustment on the rfl as far as i know. and the thing about hondas is that we have such a low displacement motor.

yes there is an adjustment on it. unscrew the top. then it should have came with some washer/like things to place in it. that would tighten it up. But yes, unless you have a knock off TurboSX RFL it IS adjustable.

ohhhhh so thats what the washer things were for. So I can only adjust it tighter and not looser?

you can go looser, just take the ones that are in it out if there are any. if not then no, you cant.

Do you want your car to sound good, or do you want the bov to function properly? The BOV needs to stay tight.

The bov doesn't go off with no load because you're not building boost... get a smaller turbo if to want to build boost with no load.

another good explanation! :TU:

yes i want it to function correctly but it seems now i have to turn at least 3-5psi before it even opens

my opens during vacumm, is sounds like a gay little birdie under my hood. It blows off from 10inHg to whatever psi and it whistles during high vac, cruising slow through a parking lot.

and yes, it's functioning properly.

One issue I do have with it is it causes compressor surge if my transistion from boost ---> vac is too smooth.

If you have a 2-step you can make it blow off when your stoped. Just bounce off of it a few times.

mine doesn't do it either, I have an apex twin chamber. As long as it's doing what it's supposed to under boost, I don't care lol.

Yep, mine flutters at ~5 in Hg, and blows off anything greater than 4psi.

when i tuned my car, i set the launch control to 3k rpms, so when i rev it, it wont go higher than 3k, and you can keep the throttle open letting more air through the engine thus spooling the turbo... let the 3k limit bounce a couple times, take foot off accelerator, and the bov will let out a full blow-off... i dont know if its bad for the engine or not, but i never had problems doing it

^^^that's called a 2 step. does it pop a lot when you do this?

thsmrtone1

^^^ no but thats probably because it is wide open throttle when i am doing this... (3k launch control).... the rev of the engine is being controled by fuel cut instead of opening and closing the throttle... thus, pressurized air coming from the turbo doesnt get blocked off by the throttle, and still goes through the engine creating more spool

that's a real 2step or anti-lag/bang-bang, which is an ignition cut, not a fuel. the poping or (bang-bang) is caused from the fuel exploding way late (due to the ignition being cut) outside of the engine, inside the manifold/turbo, the heat causes the turbo to spool with no load present on the engine.

used mainly for rally cars.

is that bad for your engine if it pops when you are on the launch controll?

depends where the pop is coming from ;)

pop = rod through block
pop = in your pants
pop = timing belt snap/jump
pop = car next to you
pop = exhaust fart "backfire"
pop = etc...

It would obviously be bad if it was a rod through the block...I was saying if it was backfiring out the exhaust

no thats fine, you have ignition controlled launch control

:edit: I wouldnt sit there all the time with the launch control on for no reason though...

Yea, i was just wondering...I cant remember how i have it set-up in my s300 though. i think there is an option for just ignition cut or ignition & fuel cut...
