What is an Effective Compression Ratio..?

almost all compression ratios can be effective, it just depends who is tuning it

I was using the the compression calulator and i put in my elevation and my ECR is like 9:65:1 but my static is 10:65:1 I was trying to realte this to how many llbs of boost i can use on a b7 bottom end. I want the most i can get until i replace the block. and when you refer to TUNE are you talking about like getting my ECU chipped with a good base map or like actually going to a Dyno?

on a b7 bottom end at that compression ratio, i would not throw a turbo on it. it will only be a matter of time until you throw a rod out the side of the block

what if I run a thicker HG?

why would you deck the head? that would bump the compression, a thicker HG would just compensate for the material you removed.
what thickness HG are you running as it sits? just buy a thicker MLS one to lower the compression.
or just wait until you have a 1.6 block

id ait until you get the 1.6 block to boost like yove previously mentioned.... i dont think a higher comp b7 is going to handle boost all that well either

sorry used the wrong terminology. I have a mini me that gives me the CR i have now. I didn't build the mini-me so my guess is only realtive as what HG they used
