I see high flow cats on ebay dirt cheap. Thing is they don't look very convincing. Would they actually get by for people who have to do emmisions?

depends, here in oHIo I passed without the factory cat due to proper tuning.

High Flow cat MIGHT give you 1-1.5 hp, not worth it.

i was actually asking because they have those complete header back exhaust systems, including hi-flow cat, for a few hundred dollars. I need a new exhaust, and I could use a new header, so why not get the whole thing?

My biggest concern is from a visual standpoint if they put the mirror under your car.

well, I would say no... I think it's actually just a resonater called a cat if im not mistaken...

go to a muff shop and get a catco Hi-Flo cat.... that will give you what you are looking for...

only problem is aftermarket high-flo cats tend to burn out.. quickly if run too lean/rich for too long.

those "high-flow cats" are just resonators with convertor flanges on them

tell me if you think they will do the same job as a true cat...

The Ebay ones... yeah.... the real ones you would get at a qualified muffler shop do atually have a catalyst in them...

If you look straight through them, the real-hi-flo cats look like they have a bunch of mesh screens across the inside: Those screens are coated with the catalyst... that's why they go out soo quick.

I would say: Don't get it... it's a waste of your $$$... I would rather spend that cash on a real cat, not a resonator posing as a cat.

YEah... but what are the odds that they actually have a catalyst in them??

The catalyst isn't cheap, and there are specific state/federal regulations about distribution/processing/recycling of the material.... ever wonder why it's illegal to sell a used CAT in Cali from a junk yard? same idea there.

They are just poser cats.... I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt they have a catalyst in them....

I would say if it ain't a brand name that is KNOWN for selling catalytic converters (like Catco) then don't get it.... it's a waste of $$$ for no emissions control.

if it actually a REAL hgihflow cat and not resonator you won't have a problem, mine almost passes w/o a cat on it!

Catco's are 40$ on ebay...
SMSP used to have high flow cats that would also work...

I need to check my cat every few months and see if it's ok. I haven't had issues so far...
