I just picked up a 1998 Civic DX Coupe. I ordered an Intake and Header for it but still has stock exhaust. I have yet to install the I/H yet so I have no idea what it will sound like without exhaust.

I had a 92 Civic Hatch with a 2000 SI motor that ran 14.6@92.75
I had a 96 DX hatch with an intake that ran 17.2@79

My question is what times should I expect from my new car? The DX coupe and hatch are almost identical in weight.

Also, does anyone know the diameter of the stock exhaust?

Thanks,

Dan

unfortunately those models seem to be drawn back from their weight. I raced a 00 sir b16 dohc vtec with header, intake, exhaust the other day in my 91 civic(see sig, but its faster now with the proper cam gear that fixed my timing gear) and i beat him fare and square.
We raced off the line from a dead stop, 1st gear roll, 2nd gear roll, 3rd gear roll, everything and i was always in front of him and always won every race and started pulling away hard on him from 180km/h. I was shifting quickly at 7200rpm and he was shifting equally quickly at 8000rpm.

The best most cost effective mod that appears to be for the ek coupe is not putting money into the y8, but either a dohc b18 swap or turboing the d16y8. or in your case the d16y7.

I do think if he doesn't have the budget to go B series, he should try the y8 transmission and, exhaust manifold + intake manifold. Cheap and quite responsive.
Personnaly, I only went to drag racing once at napierville, and this is exactly the setup I have. I ran a 16.98 fully loaded (and stuffed interior like outdoor chairs and a COOLER box ) 83.6 mph pass wich is, I think not so bad for a hatch y7. Well, temperature was 30 ° C and humidity was also high at 90%. On a 20 °C day, I do think it's quite quicker. Maybe 2-3 mph?

my friend has a y7 ek hatch with full exhaust 2 1/4'' and short ram intake, its pretty quick Ill have to say, but i get him.. he is stripped though, plus the y7 compared to my b2 or a b7(92-95) is a 1.6l so that always helps.

got a gtec pro today and decided to see the results on my car after i got the correct y8 cam gear to fix my timing error when using d16a6 cam and d15b2 block.
Well I also took off my vx wheels and put on my 18lb steelies(vx are 9lbs i think) but they actually had some tread even though theyre p155/70/r13's.
At the track before my cam gear change i ran 15.69
Today i ran on the gtec 15.46@93.2mph, a 0-60 run turned out 6.69 and it told me that my "horsepower" even though im sure that parts not accurate on the gtec, was 94 hp. Im guessing WHP which would sort of make sense.

gtec measures NET horsepower - not to be confused with whp or bhp. Net horsepower is even lower than whp on a dynojet because it includes drag, slope of the road, everything. Probably more accurate than a dyno in terms of 'real world' numbers. However, very very succeptable to variables that make it hard to isolate things (such as changes in the slope of the road, wheel slip, etc).

you can expect almost the same time in your dx coupe. The weight diff isnt that much plus you have a header and intake in the coupe, which mean a bit more hp!

oh exactly i know what you mean, its all physics and 1million exceptions and conditions, thats y i dont really go according to it. But the thing i liked is how in the exact shape how it was an ran 15.69 at the track, it was running consistent 15.78/15.8-9 on the gtec. SO im hoping if it says 15.46 then it will be consistent and actually lower at the track after some other mods i did.

see sig for times, just take it to the track run it hard and enjoy yourself. The car is gonna run what its gonna run.
