hello all, this is my first post, and thanks for the help ahead of time. I am about to buy a 98 ex (4 door manual), and im not planning anything too wild or expensive. i was thinking i/h/e/tb/cam and other basics after i have taken care of the brakes and suspension, but i was wondering since these mods will net only minimal gains for quite a bit of $, is it worth it? do these mods change the car's character that much or am i mistaken? i just want a car that is fun to drive and im not looking to do an engine swap or any real engine work or go FI. ive done a lot of searching and im just not finding answers so please forgive me if this has been discussed before. also if anyone is running a setup like the one i have mentioned that works well for cheap, please please let me know....thanks

Just I/H/E will make all the difference in the world. Tb won't really help unless you do some manifold work or get an aftermarket manifold like an edelbrock or skunk2. The cam will help too. Stay away from gude.

well u dont have to worry about the manifold or tb unless ur going turbo... the stock one will do fine if u have a nice I/H/E then a nice stage 2 cam will work out really well... dont worry about stage one cuz u hardly notice a diff...

yeah!! and don't forget to change your clutch and put a lightweight flywheel too!
AND a tuning on dyno to get out the max of your setup, this mean a chipped ecu! (conversion to ODB-1)

goomer and nocteratus are both right. Just basic bolt ons will make a lot of difference.

dont get a lightweight flywheel! get these in this order
1. intake
2. catback exhaust
3. header
4. stage two clutch
5. stage two cam with valve springs and retainers
just my opinion, but youll notice your power gains better that way

thanks a ton for the help everyone, but why no light weight flywheel?

with the rotational mass of the stock flywheel will help out in the upper rpms... unless u are going for a lot higher hp... the only thing ur gonna gain from a light weight flywheel is a lil bit quicker acceleration(due to smaller rotational mass)... nothing too much with the mods you are doing... so dont worry about it... however a nice new clutch will help a bunch... and as said be4 tune tune tune.... most of ur power gian is gonna come from ur tuning good luck :TU:

yeah, 4 and 5 on mine could be interchangable. i think youll really notice the same either way, but make sure you tune it. tuning is the key

I love my flywheel. exedy street light, 10.9 pounds is perfect. the fidanzas are way to light.
Anyway, make sure you tune if you go cam. Thier fun with that work, but be aware that you could turbo for the same price.
