ok so everyone has the question...which is the better IM....well tomorrow im gonna swap my z6 IM for a y8 just because I have it laying around...since I have had the z6 on for a while I will let people know according to my butt dyno and the rpm ranges which is better according to me

sounds good, but i bet you wont tell a difference. the y8 may be a little better though. ive heard it called the ITR manifold of the d series world. lol. either way, let us know. id love to see if there is any difference in the two.

Yeah iv heard the whole ITR...d-series shenanigans. I figure I have some shitty low end power so if there is any more pep in that area yet still have the high end we should be good

yeah well turns out the OBD1 B16 Del Sol manifold is better then the ITR (have seen the graphs) so, take from that what you will. I wouldnt bother though
here some graphs of a Z6 and such dynoing with Y8 mani, before and after

i dont see the big deal honestly and would keep the Z6

Im in the middle of doing the same swap, the y7 IM to the y8 IM. I just gotta pick a few things up, like a IM gasket, and i heard i need the y8 throttle cable bracket bc the IM i bought didnt come with one. The thing im wondering though is if i need the y8 IM mounting bracket. Some people siad i do some said it didn't matter. Just wondering what you guys think.

yeah the y7 mani just sucks, i'm putting on a y8 and having ported to match a b16 tb...the engine will finally breath.

i got it swapped...having some vacum problems but other than that it runs fine...i can tell my car is breathing better from the amount of black smoke that first came out of my exhaust...i can feel a little difference....i can hear vtec a little better....idk if i would do it from z6 to y8 just because it wasnt a great difference...but i can feel it somewhat

Changing y7 to y8 manifold will net about 6-7 whp if the car is equipped with header and good exhaust. I have dyno before and after.

yeah turbo mag did a write up on the y7 to y8 intake swap. pretty crazy results. its the first thign to do once you start modding a y7 for sure.
thats awesome that there was some difference, did you port match everything or just strap it on. any pics of the two manis togather so we can see the difference?

so would a b16 throttle body bolt straight on a y8 manifold ?? or a z6 manifold ?
how big is y8 and z6 inlet manifolds ? how much would i need ported to fit the size of b16 throttle body..

Bolt pattern is the same, y8 manifold inlet is 57 mm b16 is 62 mm, some blending is probably necessary, this involves cosiderable work and my personal testing has revealed no measureable gains, if the t/b is free I would do it anyway {I did useing prelude}. My engine is relatively stock, perhaps something that spins much higher would see improvement. Food for thought, put a vacuum gauge on your present combo and test to redline, if there is any vacuum indicated at wot then some improvement may result from the B t/b, if you see any vacuum it will be at the very top of the rev range. If no vacuum there will be no improvement.

For anyone who cares, I have a ported Y8 manifold ($100 shiped, better than a junk2 manifold) and a stock Y8 manifold ($50 shipped), both are bare....for sale.
The ported is an 'automatic' but, it'll work on a manual and I'll explain how either the gheto way or the 'factory' way....it's actually better to be an auto one because it doesn't have the IACV right up against the manifold heating it up.
Just throwing it out there for those interested (and yes, I meet selling requirements and have a bazillion vouches). Not trying to hijack the thread.
Z6 > Y8 on a z6 head. Y8 > everything on anything else.
