View Full Version : Headers: Megan v Edelbrock
I'm putting a full exhaust on my 94 Civic EX, d16z6. All that is on it so far is a CAI, but i'm going to be running a carsound 2.25 inch hi flo cat, 2.25" resonator from KTeller and a Dynomax 2.25" super turbo muffler with custom 2.25" piping from Minekie.
I've got to pick a header in the $150 price range, and Megan and Edelbrock look to be the two best options. The price diffrence is neglagible so that's not a concern, nor is quality as i've heard nothing but good about both products quality wise.
The main difference I can see is 2" collector on the Megan and 2.5" on the Edelbrock shorty. The car is a daily driver and I don't really race all that often, so I'm basically looking for the best overall option. If anyone can reccomend a third product in this range of price and quality that would be cool too.
Thanks in advance guys.

I'm sure you'll hear a lot of pros and cons.. but I have the stainless eBay header, $41.00 shipped. Perfect fitment. Sounds great. Looks great.
Just be sure you buy a 'donut', I think the technical term is cat gasket.

Thanks for the feedback, but I don't feel like dealing with ebay. Any comments on difference in collector size?

I have a 2000 DX with Y7/Z6 mini-me and I bought the Edlebrock header and It is great. I got mine from summit racing for $142.90 shipped. I bought the natural finish stainless one, I dont like shiney polished stuff. Now that it is broken in, it is a bronze color which looks sweet to me.
I bought an E-bay $41 and after it showed up 2 wks later they shipped the wrong one. It would have taken another 3 wks to get another one. So I got the edlebrock one in 2 days.

Get the edelbrock one right now when it is on sale. I got that one and it looks awesome. It has carb number, and it costs over 500 on all other places online. Megan is shit compared to edelbrock.

why not DC-S Header, decent priced and very well made

no way man, megan headers are just fine, maybe edelbrock is better quality but they do not make megan look like shit.
i have a megan 4-2-1 on right now, and i love it...couldn't be happier.

judging by how well my edelbrock intake was made and the larger collector size, id go w/ the edelbrock.

the megan collector size is only 2", but compared to the 1" stock downpipe...i aint complaining. it bolts right up to my magnaflow system. the whole thing is really deep. i love it.

oh and the edelbrock collector isn't 2.5" - it's 2.0"... it's summit that had the wrong info. i guess it's down to the carb sticker.

yeah for smog testing i have to take the header off and put the stock manifold and cat back on. but oh well, i just couldn't resist the price of the megan header.

I got my megan header off ebay for $36. I like it.

the edelbrock is less than the megan one, and is CARB legal, so you can have it on there when you take it to get smogged.
I was going to get a megan, but with the prices so low on the edelbrocks, i orderd one of those, along with some black header wrap. I'm kinda unsure if i want to wrap it though, as its oh so sexy looking.
i'd go with edelbrock, if for nothing other than the price :thehump:

which edelbrock header would fit in a 88 civic sedan?
im wondering because they dont have them for 88 but for 92 and up and i think that the last header i had was for an EG and fit fine.
is this true for the edelbrock or will i have fitment issues?

anyone who spends more than the price of a megan header BETTER be buying a bisi, smsp or something totally custom built because that means you staying na and will see a power difference...
edelbrock isnt going to show much if any at all over a megan... dont waste your money

man i hear that so much, the fact is not many people are going to buy a 500 dollar header for a 500 dollar motor, edelbrock looks good, i had the same design header from dc sports and i felt the difference so it seems to work fine, most people are on a budget.

and for the price cant go wrong...thats really why i got it....i race next to never..but i do like to beat on my car every once in a while..and the megan header was def. a good investment for that once in a while beat...

the edlebrock looks sweet. i have seen the megan, i just dont like the shiny stuff. honestly i love my 70 dollar ebay 4-1 header. never had a regret about buying it. although the rage racing header in the ad ^^^^ at the top of the page is fuckin sweet. but hell im not staying NA. so why waste a bunch of money. ya know.

mine showing little streaks of purple now...only on one of the primaries (edelbrock)
normal for stainless steel.
and honestly guys, how can you compare edelbrock to megan?? thats like comparing volk wheels and motegi wheels. they get the job done alright, but do i trust the quality? no. spend the money for the good stuff. dont cheap out and get cheap crap, spend the money and do it right the first time. i wish i had gotten Edelbrock over my DC, but i still wish i saved and got SMSP the first time around.
got my header. massive compared to my dc
in fact im going to take some comparison pics in a sec, as soon as im done discussing engines with rushi :p
heres some pics of my used and abused dc sports 4-2-1 two piece against my edelbrock 4-2-1 two piece:

Nothing, that just sems to be the only differance in the design. I'm wondering if it actually makes a differance in how they perform.
most likekly not, but the internal diameter of the tubing is larger and the colelctors are smoother than the edelbrock

well to be honest get the edalbrock my Megan on my z6 was on for about a half a year and that some stainless finsh on those allmost looks like the hole header has rust on it go with edalbrock i havent used one but its gotta be better then the Megan.....
firetech_96
10-19-2006, 01:16 PM
The Edelbrock header will be sold at that price until there are no more. The Edlebrock site show "until supplies last" as though they are not going to be making them any longer. I just picked up one for the daily driver mini-me. Very nice looking piece however not tuned to make the power like the Bisi or SMSP component.
its not made for a race header, its made for a durable, tubular stainless manifold for street cars. Either way, its still much better than the ebay junk/megan products.

Hell fucking no, you don't know what you're talking about. Megan is a very near from DC 4-2-1 headers, big flanges, nice welding, I think they are carb legal if you get 4-2-1. Megan racing headers are good and well maiden.
Maybe edelbrock are little better, but stainless steel megain aren't shit like normal steel with black paint pace setter shitty headers. Megan is a cheap name brand, but that doesn't mean in each case poor parts.
I got it since 2 years, and like it a lot, never had trouble.
