I was told...

if you take the upper breather hose off your crankcase and plug it, it will cause a posative vacum/venturi on the crankase... getting better power...

I thought he was nuts... what's your thoughts?

how is positive good...besides boost?

If you plug it, how's there a venturi?

ive heard about this before, i think it had something to do with what it does o the oil, pulling it away or some shit. either way i wouldnt do it

i dont know about n/a, but if you plug it up on a boosted car, something verrrrrrrry bad will happen. (dont ask me how i know  )

Something like a lot of oil squirting out of the oil stick hole...

that sounds like it would be fun.

HELL NO.

Pressure in the crank case is VERY bad....it creates horrible piston ring seal and can blow seals out causing oil leaks amongst many other very horrible things.

However, some pro dragsters VACUUM the crank case out with a vacuum pump... but by no means do you want to block it off or create pressure.

Many B series all-motor guys actually create MORE ventilation ducts for the crank case to deal with pressure inside the crankcase.

The honda stock system vacuums the crankcase very effectively ....except at WOT, because there is no vacuum available anymore.

Some people run slash cuts in their exhaust to create vacuum at WOT....etc, etc.

C'mon everyone....in engines,....pressure is always bad, unless it's on top of the piston head.

Nathan

PS: please go back and punch this guy in the face as he doesn't belong near a car...much less the title of "master mechanic".

Stab him with a PCV valve

Pressurising the crank case is a bad idea, it normally ends up with oil being fired out of dipstick holes :TD: seen it happen before on my corado g60:sadface:

I've learned that mechanics are fucking idiots when it comes to how shit works and understanding the engineering of cars. You DO NOT want pressure in the crank case, especially if you don't want to change your oil pan gasket a lot. (thats probably why he told you that, so you'd come back to him fir oil pan gasket work all the time)
Vacuum, however, is good.

most mechanics are full of shit from what i've known of them. hell, i used to be one.

Also master techs like to fuck with people.....then they laugh behind you back :)

they know how to put the puzzle together, but they don't know how to design, or change it. ;)
If you need a guy to turn a nut for you, thats where you go, but don't listen to what they have to say, hahaha.

bwhaha... yeah.. sorry, I meant vac um in the crankcase.... it has something to do with making the rings seal better...

but I still think it's a BS trick and tht guy should stick to working on fords and NOT telling me what I can do to get more power out of my honda....

how would blocking a vent that created vacuum in the first place create more vacuum?

JaredKaragen
10-05-2006, 04:18 PM
it wouldn't allow air to pass from the upper port to the intake... so vapors would theoretically be sucked into the pcv easier....

but he really stressed on it making the rings seal waaaay better.... I think he's full of it.

I run both of my crank evap hoses to the intake tube since the intake tube is the only place where you can find vacuum under WOT, I have been doing it like that for years and so far it works.

This is true! They even do it to the younger guys in the shop!

Turbo, too.

DVI (Deer Valley Imports) out here is almost finished building a sick turbo EM1 with 3 seperate vent points: front valve cover, rear valve cover, back of the block. One replaces the stock one, one replaces the stupid black box, one is extra. I'll post a pic of the setup as soon as they finish it, either tomorrow or Saturday morning for IDRC on Saturday.

Just don't laugh at the Ford AIR pump on my D15Baby8 setup......

CW air pump on a CCW motor, sucky setup.

More like a damn cheech and chong cloud behind the car and turning your whole engine bay black and shiny with oil, and a screwed motor :bravo:

I don't believe there are any "master mechanics" any more. They call them "Service Technicians". They're basically just guys who replace the part that the computer tells them to.

Shit... a master mechanic would have to go through a number of useless steps to diagnose the problem IU had in a buddys car... it died on him.... I went to it, it had no spark, pulled a coil that has been in my trunk since my swap and put it in... he drove away 5 min after I showed up.

it takes expireance to be a mechanic.... plain and simple... the best kind you can have is hands on with _ideas_ instead of instruction.
