i have 98 ex, with a d16y8, i have heard before that the zc tranny uses equal length axles, which cuts down on torque steer alot , is this true, the zc tranny should mount right up to my engine right??

Yes, but it's a cable clutch transmission... unless they just happened to make the DOHC ZC in hydraulic form for 1992, and if they did, they'll be pretty hard to find.

I know they had a DOHC ZC motor being built right up until the end of 92 (it went into the 20th aniversery civic I belive) But as far as if the tranny went hydrolic, Ive never seen. Im pretty sure it stayed cable, so you may be SOL.

If it did go hydrolic, youd be hard pressed to find one, as Ive never even seen the 92 DOHC ZC out of a car in real life, and Ive only seen pics of it on the net in 1 car.

HydrAUlic, not hydrOlic. Sorry, just one of my pet peeves on the Honda boards.

;)

I've never seen a 92 DOHC ZC in person either... but I have seen pictures of some swapped into 92-95 Civics. Who knows if they were using the old ZC transmission- I'll bet they were bolted up to the same transmission that the EX and Si had.

you can get a hydraulic to cable tranny conversion my friend did this when he put a b16a with the cable tranny in his 93 civic si, im not sure it works but it does. i know that the tranny will bolt to your engine however i am not sure if the tranny will bolt to your chassis you might wanna reseach

Yes, you can convert the chassis to use a cable clutch transmission, but is it really worth it? The transmission that's bolted on the Y8 from the factory is already pretty good... and I sure as hell wouldn't want to chop up my car and swap out my transmission for one that's 10 years older just to get equal length axles.

but wouldn't the equal length axles, make the car drive better, especially durring acceleration through corners?? :honda:

I guess it would... all my cars have equal length axles and LSDs, so I can't really say.

find a halfshaft which lets you use length of 90-93 integra axles which are stronger and gets rid of torque steer. The transmission will work with any D-series.

here is one for sale with tranny

92-95 DOHC ZC w/Hydro transmissions do exist.

They come in the JDM EG5 special anniversary edition civic, one above the EG4 VTi model (D15B sohc vtec). The hydro ZC engine uses 92+ B16A axles or 94-01 integra axles (same design); civic axles will not work with this 'mission because of the bigger differential opening -- it's designed for bigger spline'd axles....ala.. b16a or integra axles. The gearing from 1-5th is exactly the same as 92-95 Si/EX and 96-00 EX missions, the final drive (FD) is what I'm not exactly sure about. It supposedly the same FD ratio (4.25) as any of the 92+ Si/EX 'missions, but then I hear from other sources that it has a longer ratio (DX fd/3.88 or so).

btw, I happen to have a non-LSD hydro DOHC ZC mission for sale if you or anyone is interested and is in the SO.CAL area. $175 (non LSD). Like stated above, you'll need to use complete integra axles with this 'mission, civic axles will not work.

I am pretty sure there is a difference in SI and ZC transmissions ,The 5gear in the si is better then the 5th gear in a ZC.

katman is right. The 92 hydro tranny is a 92-95 S20 SI tranny. The 92-95EX had a longer 5th. But other then that its the same.

However it does come with a 1/2 shaft..and larger splines so you need to use teg axles.

However i was told to use 90 integra axles, not 94+?

I dont think that the Y8 Block has the 3 holes in the block to bolt up. You would therefor need to get a different block to use the transmission...
