started with some knock... then it died and wouldnt start.. and now. i just dunno..

got my obd1 upgrade complete. put in a phearable.net chip. went for a drive. stoppped after a couple miles to check my plugs, and they looked fine. drove some more, heard a wierd knock soudn at some throttle positions...

i figured i might have a slight case of detonation due to my timing being a little more advanced that i would like. I cant retard it on the distributor anymore, so i went to the gas station and added 1/2 bottle of octane boost to my 1/4 tank of gas. drove some more

knocking sound started knocking at all rpms and throttle positions... started to pull over and the car just died...

wouldnt start back up.. let it cool, check the oil, was about a quart low.. added oil, it would start but if i let off the throttle suddenly it would die..

im thinking all the detonationkilled some pistons.. but i dunno.. never heard pinginng before.. this sounded like a loud knock... detonation? i dunno. think so..

im gonna try and pull the head tomorrow and see. what do you guys think?


if i end up needing new pistons, its gettin pm3's, and im gonan put my y8 head on with a 2 layer gasket :) and then tune it before it moves an inch..

what do you think the chances are that the cylinder walls will be scored? and if so how deep?

Did it sound like a rod knock? Did it act like the engine was getting tight?

AWW shit man maybe u fuk up one of ur pistons QUick disassemble the head u might of had some bad damage EWWW!!!

tis what im thinking. hopgi its just haead noise or something but i dunno. it was a really loud knocking sound. not like, marbles in a coffee can like what pinging sounds like, imtold

my buddies mitsubishi eclipse made a knocking noise... then one of the rods put a hole in his block! i was the one driving it home, it sucks cause he just bought it and it didn't even make the 2 hour drive home.

did a compression test...
1 - 175
2 - 165
3 - 150
4 - 165

so im guessing its just a spun rod bearing or something? since my compression isnt horrible..

maybe if u dissamble ur oil pan u might find chunks of metal!!!

think it might be a bent valve or something in the head? im thinkng about puttin gon the y8 head when i get the bolts.. cuz i have good compressoin.. just seems odd.. think it might be damage from revving too high? would that cause a loud knocking sound like that? like damage in the head, not the rod bearing. though i guess that would kill it too..
