Basically For a high hp boost potential setup, what would be the better choice between these two motors? The D16a8 (DOHC non vtec) or D16z6 (SOHC Vtec). If all had the same internals, same management, same turbo and bolt on's etc etc.
Let me know all your opinons!!
Thanks in advance!
Ps in a high powered turbo setup, would you benefit more from the Vtec, Head design and flow of the y1 or the Twin Cams from the a8?
Its kinda a hard decision.. but i would lean with the Z6 just because there are more parts for it and easier to get. I guess it would be hard to get aftermarket cams for that specifically DOHC engine were for the Z6 it would be easy.
The power output on both stock motors should be similar. Tunning will have its cons and pros..
In one side you have a non vtec engine(just one timing map and fuel maps) but with 2 cams(playing with the cam gears to extract power will be more of a challenge than with just one cam)
On the other side you have a Sohc engine but you have vtec which means that you will have a Low Cam timing map and a high cam timing maps, same with fuel... so it gets a lil more complicated..

Seeing that you are from australia, that must mean that there are a lot of dohc's available, so they will come cheap, just like here in europe (dohc d16's are cheaper then sohc ones here).
The dohc head has better flow charracteristics.
The dohc will have a lower compression (more psi's to play with safely)
Crespo cams makes excelent cams for a turbo dohc, so cams won't be a problem.
I am guessing you allready have a dohc'd car, or are planning on buying one.
Iff so, swaping to sohc would be stupid.
Iff you have a sohc, then swaping to a dohc is stupid when turboing anyway, better to boost what you got and get enough hp, then to swap, boost and have just a tad more hp.
There aren't many dohc d16 turbo's, or at least not ones with conciderably more hp over the sohc turbo'd ones.
But i think iff FJT can get 354 whp out of a sohc with vitara's, then you could get 400 whp out of a dohc one (not based on facts, but very well possible).

any more opinions? cams will no be a problem as the Twin cam i am looking at purcahseing has had custom made cam shafts to suit turbo application and adjustable cam gears
