reading up threads on how long/how short a b7 would last under boost...is discouraging me from boosting my b7 at all - i guess i want to hear some success stories. i mean - my goal is only 160whp...

what would be the route i would take to get 160 peak whp. i guess i mean... what setup would i need to pursue to get a safe torque level - early and broad...peaking at 160whp. this is supposedly safe on a tune right? ... aye let the stories come in.

i currently have a t3 .42/.48 - i was thinkin i should go for a td04h (i think that's what it's called

IMO, the b7 should hold 160 just fine. that t3 will be a prime choice as well. might not hit full boost as early as you want, but you should see full by 3500.
tune it right and you should have much to worry about

ss manifold + ss wastegate...@5.5-6 psi spring should net me that power level...and not too high right?

I know some of you wont beleive me but my buudy has a b7 with about 150,000 on it an it has was boosted for about 2 month running 10psi on a ss kit. It was a T3/T4 somthing, not really sure what the other numbers were with the turbo. But his motor held strong, 390cc injectors and just the ss kit with a turbosmart wastegate. He was using a chipped p06 on crome and that little thing hauled ass if you ask me. He ended up selling the kit and is now in the process of boosting it again!!!

The only problems he had was the manifold cracking and charge pipes blowing apart. The scary thing is he ran 13psi off of it for a day, he is one lucky SOB for not blowing that shit up...

yeah...that's about the same feeling for me - "chances of failure are 1 in 50...and i was that 1." (ofcourse with this motor...we're prolly looking at -what- 1 in 2?)

i'm about 2 weeks away from boosting my B7. i have no doubts that it could hold 170hp. i guess we'll see. [cross fingers]

keep the t3 and just piece together the rest of the kit. you will be able to get 160whp out of it fairly easy. as long as you get a good tune you shouldnt have much to worry about.

what should the spring be on the wastegate so that i don't get into some "dangerously" high numbers...?

did you buy your fmu or did it come with the a kit? cuz i dont see why people use fmu's when you can get dsm's for 50-70$ with or without the resistor box. most fmu's i see sell for 100-120$ which is a waste imo.

As long as u get a really good tune and your motor is in great shape... no overheating and no 200,000+ miles you will be fine at 160. As for boost it does not matter how much u boost it just as long as it isnt past like 12psi and your HP is under 200whp. It all depends on the tune. I would recomend changing your head gasket with a 3 layer steel and replacing your head bolts. After that your good to go.
