This is a continuation of the JGE titanium retainers thread being sold by engine-dynamics-usa on Ebay.
http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=48329&page=2
I bought this valvetrain package from the same seller
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8060648382&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
It arrived today. Here are some pics.
http://mrichard.org/engine-dynamics-usa/index.html
The springs, advertised as chrome silicon came in a plastic sandwich baggie and look used. There are small rust spots and red paint on the side.
The retainers advertised as titanium feel heavy. There are nicks on them and the edges have burrs and splinters.
The valves and guides look new. Valves are sealed in bags with the words "engine valves" on them with the number HIVN-1012. Although they're black and they were advertised as stainless steel.
Also there was a note saying they would send the exhaust valves later? WTF!
I emailed Javier at JGE and he says, from looking at the pictures the parts look genuine. He told me to install and run them with confidence. My gut is telling me I'm getting ripped off though. I don't know what to believe.
Besides doing the density test on the retainers how else can I tell if this stuff is quality? Why are the valves black?
What do you all think I should do?

Ok so I took everything to Bell Motor Service in Louisville KY. Tom, the owner and expert engine builder, loooked at all the parts and said they looked fine.
He said the retainers looked and felt like titanium and the valves were stainless steel. For some reason I'm still skeptical though... Maybe it's just poor packaging .
off to my old high school chem lab to measure this stuff and determine specific density for all of it...

What do the retainers weigh? The ones I got all 16 together weighed 91.6 grams.

I just got done replying to Javier of JGE via PM.
Heres the deal.
ebay seller engine-dynamics-usa is a fraud... JG Engine Dynamics is legit!!!
Javier looked at the pictures of what this ebay seller sent me and it is NOT a real JGE package. The valves are supertech, the retainers weigh almost 6 grams each, the springs are obviously used. The only thing that looked right are the valve seals. This ebay seller is just a fraud.
Thanks again to Javier for taking his time to help a guy not get ripped off on ebay. I don't think I would have been the last guy to get duped by this seller though so it's great that he was able to stop this guy from ruining his reputation.

I wasn't able to get an very accurate scale. All 16 retainers weighed 94 grams +/- 1gram. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

That's close enough, sounds like the same ones I got. The set of skunk2 Ti retainers I got weighed 61 grams for the set. That's a big difference. I hope there aren't many sets of those cheap retainers running around out there. They're so soft i'd be afraid of the keepers pulling through.

Javier has been a huge help.
JG Engine Dynamics produce sick engines and parts. If you want something from them call them directly or visit their website.
http://jgenginedynamics.com/
NEVER EVER EVER close a paypal dispute before you're 100% sure you like what you got. This ebay seller wouldn't ship my part unless I closed the dispute, and now I find out that Paypal won't let you open more than 1 dispute on any item, no matter what....
I am now stuck with a $450 box of crap unless my credit card company can do something...
Does anyone live near Rowland Heights CA and can deliver a message to Ben Tran with my Louisville slugger?

hmm..you might want to visit paypalsucks.com and see what kind of recourse you have with something like this, even if you can call them. i know pps.com has some good info....
definately pursue it with your CC or bank. i've pursued a damaged/ used item that came from a college and my bank awarded me the money back.
also, the ben tran, is it this one? Ben C Tran, (626) 913-1905, 1433 Custoza Ave, Rowland Heights, CA 91748

also, i'd say Javier has some legal room here to issue some cease and desist orders to this seller since Ben Tran seems to be using Javier's intellectual property and trademarks.

I emailed and called paypal. They say, no matter what, you can't open more than 1 dispute on any item. ever... I will checkout paypalsucks.com , thanks for the link.
Luckily I paid w/ credit card and not straight from my bank. Capitol One has opened a dispute but said I will get a letter in 2-3 weeks.
I sent a bunch of angry emails to engine-dynamics-usa and finally got a response today. Although he still claims that the parts are original NEW JGE and that he is a JG dealer and buys directly from Javier. But Javier says they aren't authorized to sell his stuff or use his logos and name and that they have until Friday to remove it all from their ebay store. We'll see...
I am supposedly going to get a refund if I ship the stuff back to the ebay seller. I still have feedback to leave as my only barganing chip. As soon as that money hits my account I'm gonna flame the shit out of him, so he'll proly wait until I can't leave any and then send my money.
The return address I have on the package is:
Ben Tran
2515 Artigas Drive
Rowland Heights CA 91748
Who knows even, his name proly isn't even Ben Tran and thats his moms or friends address... It all just sucks because my head and these internals were supposed to be at with my engine builder now for assembly... This is all gonna push my build back months!

Ebay is really quick on those auctions that advertise one thing and send you something else. I am really suprised Javier has let this company do this for so long, I think this scam has gone back 2 or 3 years. Kinda iffy if you ask me, one phone call from him to ebay and this would be a non issue.
PS Someone took a picture of mine from a forsale thread on another forum and posted it on a ebay auction, I called then emailed Ebay the info and within 24 hours thats sellers account and auction were gone.

Javier, only "bad" thing I've seen from him from back in the day was cam lobes going flat on regrinds.
Bill Gude had the same issue, but Bill was shady on head cores.

They didnt have any control over that... "Americam" were the ones grinding cams for them... And for $30 a peice to grind them , I doubt they were heat treated afterwards...

just someone on egay is selling a ECU chip that give +60 hp and +20 mpg, he has sold like 7000 last month alone.
Buyer beware. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
IMHO if not a JGE product, Javier would have had the ebay seller shut down.
So either he doesn't care or he is the seller, you decide.
Then again, haven't heard of anyone breaking a retainer and dropping a valve, so that is some good news.
