what kind of "bad" idle. Any way to post a sound clip or better explanation?

some vaccum hose loose may be.

was it doing it before you dropped the tranny? if so, sounds like a tuning issue, if not you may have a vaccum leak.

Beside loose vac./incorrect timming/ dirty IACV

Too rich or too lean might cause idle issue too......
form my exp.
-too rich tend to lead to swing idle..too low rpm./balck smoke/shut off engine.
-too lean tend to lead to swing idle with subaru imprezza sound and knoncking on the run.

Do you get any CEL light?

+1 on the CEL's....sounds like it might be a nasty vacum leak somewhere though....good luck keep us posted....I'd like to hear a little more....
