I think NepTune and the S300 are clever, but...

apexi power fc is my choice hands down.

i use it for my street car and Jeff Evans (www.evans-tuning.com (http://www.evans-tuning.com)) will be running it in his race car, showcasing it's abilities in that realm. He is a premier NepTune dealer, however, he prefers a standalone since there are no factory things going on in the background of a stand alone vs. a NepTuned or Hondata'd ECU.

No, what he means is that there is no 'safest engine management' if you screw up your maps, you will do damage, whether you have a hondata or any other management... stating that hondata is safer is stupid, because it's all in the tune.
Hondata is OK and does have nice features, but the customer service is iffy, and their obd1 stuff is pretty obsolete, since you can get the same results with a cheaper system (like neptune or crome). The advantage hondata has over others is that a lot of people know how to tune it and they have a large dealer network.
As far as 'all of the people you spoke to', are you sure they know what they're talking about, or are they trying to sell you crap you don't need, or jumping on random bandwagons?

its the safest out thereno engine management is "safe" without a good tuner. you can fuck up a motor just as easy with Hondata as you can with the freeware programs if the person controlling the computer doesnt know what they are doing. there is no way a program can be "safer" than another...
