ok i was helping my buddy install his turbo kit that he bought locally used on his gsr coupe. we got everything together, and we are running open DP for right now cuz it didnt come close to reaching his exhaust. anyways, the car has never smoked a bit until we put the turbo on. now it pours blue smoke out of it until it hits boost, then it seems to die down a bit. i chipped a p06 and converted it to vtec for him. we're running crome free. i am using a p30 basemap, added boost tables, did the multiplier for displacement from a 1595 to 1797 or what ever it is, and did the multiplier for the RC440s we put in. besides that there is no tune. there is no o2 bung in the down pipe and im having problems datalogging(see thread in the engine manegment thread) so im not sure if we are having serious turbo seal problems or if it is just in the tune. plus the CEL is on and we have no idea why. how do you pull the cell on a 00 dx with a conversion harness running a obd-1 p06??? i know my datalogging program(ecucontrol) has a debug section, but i cant seem to get it to connect.

answer yes.... have found oil in the charge pipe, coming off the cold side of compressor?

i havent pulled the charge piping off, but we have an exhaust leak on the DP and there is oil all around that surface

does the turbo have a restrictor to the oil inlet? too much oil pressure will cause it to pass thru the seals...if you have an oil restrictor, then it could have bad seals, time for rebuild.

so if it didnt have a restricter it wouldnt mess up the seals

well, little by little if not corrected yea.
just an example: a turbo only needs like 10-15psi to lubricate, without a retrictor under boost it could easily push in 30 or more psi...so whatever the turbo cant handle, will seep thru the seals and start goin thru the turbo inlet...i noticed that on mine, waiting on function7 restrictor to come in so i can install...if its not that, then i'll look into a new turbo.
specially our cars that use small turbos, unless you are using a ball-bearing or a big turbo which requires a good oil psi flow, a restrictor is your best bet...im not saying the turbo isnt f'd up, but its cheaper to get a restrictor than to pay a new turbo.

wow are u burning out on rear wheel drive?!? kidding...
thats bad...looks like it could be the seals. is it leaking oil into the hot side of the turbo if you take a look around it? oil leaking around the downpipe or around the center of the turbo?

the smoke is mainly coming out of the pipe. but there is oil on the outside every once in a while. i havent pulled the charge piping off to see if there is oil in it yet tho. how does the restricter install. we just put the lines on the fittings that were on the turbo.

lol. i believe they are -4an lines. but not sure. the drain is 3/8s ID cause i had to find a piece of 3/8s pipe at work to weld into the oil pan

Make sure his oil return line isn't kinked and is in working order...if oil isn't properly draining into the pan it can cause the car to smoke.

if you go down to a -3an feed line you wont need a resistor, but if you want to keep your -4an you will need one. people will disagree with me but in the last couple weeks ive discussed oil lines with many people and a number them used and had long turbo life with a -3an feed line.
