popped the heads off both the bracket bolts... after it settled, it kept running just grinding the shit out of the sprocket..
haha.... well, wife was the driving this car when it happened, atleast she had the common sense to stop driving... fuck me..
Hopefully I can get helicoil to work just to drive it to the shipping yards to ship it home.. otherwise.. break it down, break it down.... :D
I hate when shit like this happens...

This happened on a buddy's y8 engine also. The head of the bolt fell down in the crank pully area and tore the belt in half, but it somehow held together and didn't bend any valves.

damn, that's fuckn lucky.
yeah, this is the 3rd d-block I have seen do this. Engineering fuckup to say the least  threads are to fine, and 12mm shaft is too small for this mount.

i think when the block and head are in stock specs, the valvetrain will not meet the pistons. i dont know how much clearance u have though ie milling and decking will afftect that free floating characterestic

Would this happen to be a 92+ motor in an EF? I'm thinking the slightly tilted mount may be putting more force on the bolts that go into the block. I've never seen a stock A6 fail like that in an EF or a stock 92+ motor fail in an EG like that.

man i just used that mount offd a y8 block so that i could use the z6 timing cover :?

To the last two posts:
It's not the mount, it's the bracket into the block.. and it was the 10m bolts that failed. And that mount is from a 92-95 civic, not a 96 up FMDICR, and yes, the Y8 lower timing cover has clearance issues..
slebidia... No, it was in a 92-95 civic chassis. The slight tilt you are talking about is not a huge issue on that particular set-up.. For instance, look at the H22 into a DC, EG, Ek.. whatever.. still, the only big issue with that is radiator arching..

I was talking about a 92+ motor in an EF. the mount gets twisted a little.

ditto to what soccaian said... i've been looking at this picture and it looks like the engine has broken off and the cam gear has fallen onto the mount itself?!

Yes, check it out... the bracket from the mount bolts to the block via 2 14mm bolts.. well, those bolts into the block snapped, not backed out, snapped... causing the the torque mount to fail and lower the engine onto the mount bracket itself...
pretty funny actually. It's all fixed now... $100 in parts  later...

any damage to the head/cam? I would think that supporting the engine via the cam gear would do some damage.

Cam sprocket is now an ashtray...
The cam and journals were fine. Luckily, the lower torque mount was still supporting a majority of the weight, I believe that is why the engine still ran when it collapsed.

I stared at that picture forever trying to figure out what the hell you were talking about lol. It's hard to see in the pic, but yeah, that sucks. You got lucky though. :?

damn!.... thanks for the clarification...
...i am assuming the bolts snapping are from the wear and tear the engine torque produces on the mounts... has anyone tried upgrading these two bolts to something stronger? (SAE Grade 8.2?)
...not sure if that would make much difference... but i'm just about to put my new Pnp'd head on and with murphy's law on my side...

Nah, took me 2 and a half hours to fix really... not including parts driving time...
