Distributor
OBD-II (Y8, Y7) and OBD-I (z6, maybe others) have different outer shell castings and wiring for the distributor. However, the internals have the same configuration (electronics may be slightly different). Therefore it is possible to swap a Z6 head onto a OBD-II motor, and wiring harness.
Source an OBD-I distributor shell. Inspect the oil seal for the distributor shaft. If it is dry or in bad shape or you just feel like it, replace it with honda factory part. That is a critical part of the distributors functionality. Oil + electronics = Bad.
Disassemble the OBD-II distributor. Be careful to NOT brake the casting for the shaft bearing housing. Pay attention to where each part goes, or even mark both the OBD-I housing and the parts as they are disassembled.
Reassemble parts into new housing. When I finished the conversion the shaft was sticking. We discovered that the spacers between the Drive gear and the back side of the distributor were binding because they are too large. We removed one of the spacers. There is a little bit more play in the drive gear now, however the integrity of the part should not be effected.
As a side note I also have taken apart a obd-0 distributor, they are different enough that this swap will NOT work.
