I'm using a y8 head. I need to know what internals from the Z6 distributor i need to swap into the proper housing dizzy which I beleive is non vtec since it has OBD1 wiring, but its not z1 or z6. (prolly a dx dizzy) I looked at the honda sites, and it shows the igniter are the same.

dude obd1 wiring does not mean its not gonna be vtec, the z6 is obd1 and it is vtec

I'm not sure where you misunderstood, but I have 1 vtec one, and 1 non since the only OBD1 vtec was Z1 or Z6 which have the DIFFERENT housing.

I'm not sure I understand your question, so I'll just spit out random, hopefully relevant info:
the d15z1, d16z6, and d15B dizzy housings are the same.
if it's obd-1 and not from a z6 or z1, it could from a b7 or b8 head.
all 92-00 d-series dizzy internals are interchangable.
You can try using your obd-1 dizzy with the y8 head, as long as you have a conversion harness. I think you can make your own fairly easily. I'm using a b7 dizzy with my z6 head, and it works very well.

i just want to make shure if im understanding this right
iv got the Z6 head onto my Y7 bottom and am keeping
the car OBD2 but the Y8 dizzy wont match the mounts
on the Z6 head would i be able to put the Y8 dizzy internals
into the Z6 housing without it messing up the timeing

I'd just get a conversion harness. It's much easier.

with that would it just convert the whole car to obd1 or dose it just hook
up to the obd2 dizzy wire harness to the the obd1 dizzy

I'm honestly not sure, but I know it's been done. Crudely.

you dont need a harness. You need the proper housing to fit on the proper head. You can pull the wiring out of the approriate dizzy (OBD1 or OBD2)
My question is: What internals do I need to scavenge from the z6 dizzy into the other one to work with my vtec motor?

you can swap the wiring, but it's sort of a pain from what I hear. Conversion harnesses are cheap. But, it's up to you - whichever route you prefer is fine

if the housing is compatible with the head, none. As I mentioned before, I'm using a "non-VTEC" dizzy with a z6 head. If it's just a difference between obd1 and obd2, do what was mentioned above.

thanks, so does everyone agree that the internals are interchangable? I will have a modified vtec engine that will definetly need a proper working dizzy.

if ur using a y8 head in a obd1 car.. any non vtec dizzy.. ie the dx/lx/cx will be a DIRECT FIT on the y8 head and work just fine
my friend has a y8 head on his z6 and used his dx distributor and it runs just fine

awsome, thanks man! Looks like I'll just close up my dizzy with the new cap and rotor and use that!

no problem man.. just make shure thats its a non vtec dizzy... like the vtec e and the regular vtec dizzy's are the same and wont fit the y8 head
but the 1.5 dizzys out of the dx lx cx will bolt right up and run just fine with no problems..
