View Full Version : Help me decide! Compression for nitrous, or compression for N/A..?!

Ok guys, my current build is now getting a rethink. I am building a D16Y7 engine, and was originally going to use some P29's and run at 12:1 compression ration, for N/A....
I also thought i might like to add a fairly big nitrous shot in at some point in the future. I emailed Endyn, asking for a set of pistons that put sompression at about 12.5:1, and also asked about the nitrous.
Larry recommended, take the compression you would run N/A (max 12.9:1 ish), then take off a point, to give you the comrpession for nitrous, he recommended 11.83:1 mid domed pistons... so i can then run any cam profile i like.
So if it was your build, what would you do...!? Go N/A, or go a bit lower and have the option of the nitrous..!?

they seem to know what they are doing so id go with that.... ive been pondering the idea of a high comp nitrous setup myself.. but itb's may be ab it harder to do that with lol
good luck with whatever you do

Keep it low 12:1 for spraying. A friend runs a 75shot on his y7 running like 12.2:1ish

have you ever used nitrous before? i mean, it's all preference, isn't it? if you like it, keep your compression a little lower. i love spray, but again, that's just a preference.

Ive never used nitrous before, no. As i am putting a fair amount of money into this build i want to make sure im getting as much from it as possible really.
I had thought about going turbo, but im juts not really a fan. Id rather get some good numbers off the engine, and then have the added bonus of a big nitrous shot. Looking at a 100 shot, maybe more depending what it will take.
I dont really know what power i can get from the engine, but for example, if i got 130whp, i would like to look at getting at least 230 on the bottle.
So im swaying towards the nitrous option.....!

he should be fine with a 100 shot.. tune for it and if im not mistaken youve got forged internals or will have right....

high comp and nitrous needs to be tuned perfect

it can handle nitrous fine. run a wet kit so you don't really have to tune it.

Yep, forged rods, and when i decide on pistons, obviously they will be forged aswell.
Obviously the 12.9:1 cr just isnt going to be practical to build for nitrous, so if i go for that, its going to be N/A forever, unless i crack the engine open again.
If i build it with nitrous in mind at the 11.8:1 cr, how much power will i be losing out on when running it N/A, as i wont be gettign nitrous striaght away if thats the way i decide to go..

3% whp assuming everything is optimized. the rush of the nitrous will override this. trust me.
