It probably wouldnt run and if it did itll run like it has a spark plug wire off...one way you could test for one is to do a compression test to find out which cylinder has a bent valve, itll have little or no compression if you find one.

cam cover or cam gear? cause the cam cover is nothing but a plastic dust shield for the timing belt, bolts loose on that will do nothing.

No not the cam GEAR cover the cam bearing cover that has 10 8mm 4 6mm bolts that haved to be tourqed to 14ft/lbs. I ddont have my cam GEAR cover on either make it easier to adjust cam timing.(haven't removed a camshaft lately huh)

Do you mean the valve cover? A loose valve cover won't cause bent valves, just lots of messy oil running down the outside of your engine :)

A bent valve is generally caused by over-rev'ing your engine (ie. missing a shift). You can diagnose a bent valve by doing a leakdown test, which any decent mechanic can do for you, or if you have access to compressed air go buy yourself a decent leakdown test gauge and you can test the valves yourself. Alternatively, you could pull the head and visually inspect each valve, but this will take a certain amount of mechanical ability and a shop manual if you've never done it before. I'd start with a leakdown test :)

Generally speaking, a bent valve won't prevent the engine from running, it'll just run rough and sound like it's missing or running on three cylinders.

What exactly are the symptoms when you say the engine won't run? Will it turn over? Fire up and then die? More details will help us give you better advice.
