Either swap for a K or go CRVTEC if you don't have alot of money.

Oh, I didn't catch that it was a 7th Gen. That would make sense though considering that this is the 7th gen thread. Doh, should have looked closer.

the best bet is to go with the K

K's are so expensive. I was wondering what I could do for my 7th gen. Now I'm getting a new car. 99-00 ex. Woohoo!!!

^^^^^ More or less. You really only have 2 kinds of hybrid motors not including mismatching B16 blocks w/ B18C heads and vice versa. The first is the CRVTEC, which is the B20 block from a CRV and either a B16 or B18C cylinder head. Then you have the LSVTEC, which is the B18A/B block with a B16 or B18C cylinder head.

To answer your exact question (which swapping would not be an answer, since you are asking the best way to get torque out of a D17, not how to get more torque out of a 7th gen) would be to boost it.

i may be kinda confused but i am still learning, so hear is my 2 cents.....could u put a new flywheel on there to free a little torque up? again srry if this is a stupid/wrong thing to say

i would love to swap a K in but that is too expensive for my poor ass self. Thanks for the replies though. I will end up boosting it probably in the next two years or so.

the d17 has several weak points...
1. the intake is very combersome and restrictive...this can be swapped out for a y8 mani, but takes quit a bit of work...on the up side you'll get a fuel return system out of it...
2. the lack of a return fuel system...of course this can be solved by reading #1...or you can buy a return fuel system kit from an aftermarket place, this has been noted and rectified by aftermarket vendors...
3. the throttle body...it faces straight up instead of off to the side like the y8 does...this causes restriction on hte intake pipes forcing a tight turn right before going into the intake runners...again this can be changed with step #1...
4. the vtec-e system, if you have the a2 head, is restrictive of incoming air...however, as with everything, there is an aftermarket fix for this...crower does make some stage 1-3 cams for N/A applications, and i believe they make a stage 2 turbo cam for fi applications...

other than that, the water pump isn't all that great, i would recommend changing it every 75,000 miles or so to keep from over heating...this issue has been identified by other 7th gen users, but is not a wide spread issue...but it is always better to be safe than sorry...

anything else that is normally done to other hondas can be done to the 7th gen for more power, but in order to get good response from any bolt on, you need to get a minimum of the y8 mani and larger throttle body...this will give you the better air flow and return fuel system...of course doing this will require some tuning and whatnot, but as been said before, the easiest way for more power is using boost...

PS. because i am sick and tired of writing this out EVERY time...i'm going to create a thread to discuss the problems and solution of the d17 engines...

the cheapest mod on ur car would be the lightened flywheel. Oh year and 5.0001 inch exhaust piping with and apc aluminum muffler

lightened flywheels rnt cheap and y would u want a 5 inch exhaust piping that would make ur car extra slow it would have no back pressure at all. my sujestion would be intake exhuast header high flow cat just bolt on stuff to get u a little more power
