Hello there folks i am new to the site! i just recently bought a 94' Civic dx hatch
for a good price, of which it needs a engine, i will be putting a JDM D15, as soon as my tax refund hits the mailbox! i used to own a 93 Civic Coupe a/t that i swaped a b16 automatic, a few years ago! sold the car and some what got out the scene, and even drove a few Ford's and i still do!! he he!! but for some odd reason i am being pulled in! i guess a miss that lil civic!!

as far as the plans for the d15, i am trying to fix it and get it working good
i dont think i will be doing a swap on it!!

bye for now!

it took a few weeks but the swap has begun!!!
i received my JDM D15B 09/05/06 shrink wrapped on a trailer truck!
i placed my order on 04/05/06 pretty quick ha!! it sat for half a week
before i could really put my hands on it at my place of work!! as any other
imported engine it had shipping damage, crank pulley was cracked in a
few spots, air temp sensor was broken, and few nicks here and there
pretty clean looking engine no rust at all! not even on the exhaust shield.
the following saturday its was hands on the engine took off all the cutted hoses, wires, cables, few brackets, looks good so far(pics will follow later) i had already started working of the civic by taking head, intake, axles, alt, all i got left in the bay is the trans and block!! as far as replacement parts, i got
a oem clutch cover, disc, bearing! aftermarket radiator! i will be taking out the block on saturday the 20th! after i get off from work! but i dont think i will be installing the D15B until the following Sat, the reason being, a friend of mine is selling me port and polish intake, a 94 civ Si ECM, cam sprocket, and a header and a few other items! that he had left from his wrecked d16!!
he even said he had a set of GSR front seats too!

anyways i figured i should update my noob post!! i got a question for anybody that might know! why is it that some valve D15b valve covers are OE black painted and some are aluminum finish???? just something i noticed!! mine is aluminum!

thanks

The great majority of 1988-1995 Honda engines, both JDM and abroad, recieve black-painted valve covers. (These are OBD-0 and OBD-I series)

However, the USDM equivalent to your engine, the D16z6, comes with a polished valve cover and the same head casting, P08.

The OBD-II sohc D-series Honda engines from 1996-2000 seem to get the polished valve covers in :america:, I believe most JDM 96-00 D16_'s have polished valve covers, 2001-2005 D17's got the aluminum powdercoated covers.

'96-'00 JDM D15B 3-stage VTEC's still had black valve covers.

BTW, nice hatch you've got there dude. :TU:

Here's what I mean by Honda OEM "powdercoated" valve covers. All non-Si 7th gen Civics came with these unloved lumps known as the D17, I used to drive one and I loved & hated it at the same time..?.
