hey all,

I own a D16A7 powered civic, and would like to know what are some good things and bad things about these engines, opinions on them, what are good upgrades, what are some parts I can use from raiding the honda parts bin mechanically, how can I get one going faster (WITHOUT ENGINE SWAP!), and anything else and everything else I want to know about these. I've done a search, but there seems not much information on these particular engines without the use of "swap to a ******" ....

Cheers
i thought this would be an appropriate place for the n00b question.
feel free to fill this with numerous amounts of pages of info.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Its a good stock motor (reliable)

There isn't a lot of aftermarket support for it.

You can use the stock block and put a Z6 or Y8 head on it (mini me swap).

Z6 & Y8's have a lot more support for them

WHat is your overall goal?

I would say do the head swap for the simple fact that there is not much aftermareket support! It's reasonably cheap and easy to do?

I see that everyone is directing me to head conversion.

It's a D16a6 but without the cat (and an IMA sensor instead of the O² sensor).

So anything for an a6 will work in your a7 too. People are making just as much power out of these as they are with z6 engines.

I'd say : raise compression, D16y8 headgasket, get the head ported, z6 intake manifold, get a nice camshaft (Crane 251-0012, Catcams stage 2, Exospeed SR909/A6 Race, Delta 272,...) and have it dyno tuned with a chipped ECU. That + bolt ons like an exhaust, header and intake, ofcourse.

Should get you to 150-160hp at the crank with the right tune.
