This will certainly help out lots, I just hope that this doesn't isolate the noobs from the regular members to the point that no one will come here to answer their questions. Nice build though, maybe this will help the flooding eveyone is so concerned about.

Hi, I'm a noob. That's only to this site. I am also a man. No Fear Here, or any where else on the internet, intranet, or any plublic place you can think of. I grab my sac when I ask anyone a question, or when I give an answer, respectfully.

Newbie's is just a word for us, that's it. Just put some thought into your questions. Don't get into pissing contests. Just focus on the good folks, and the good info. The guru's, as well as most of people in here - are wiling to participate and share the Honda & Motor experience we all love. Try to make threads with exciting topics. If you search through the forums, you'll see that some of the thread topics are similar, but don't ask the same question that is already posted somewhere else on the site. Only if you have a specific difference in your problem/curiosity.

Don't take "Search" comments personal. A guardian angel will usually provide a link for you to look at or study, so that a thread may conatin some progress. They just wan't you to step your game up, so that your thread might provide some useful info for others - that might have the same question as you. Remeber, thousand's of people visit this site everyday, so don't let our/your Honda stuff that's posted in here be sloppy.

You will have fun. You will learn the d-series organizational culture, and make the stats on the home page look good.

Welcome.

Yes the nissan was my baby. If i could find another classic se-r in good shape i would have bought it. My buddy had a 90 std hb rust free at the right price. Snatched her up. First off will a si 5speed from a rex bolt right on. I know it has been asked im sure but this is the noob section

other than that, use the axles you have now and it should work fine :TU:

someone point me in the right direction. I have a 90 std hb. Im going to put a 5 speed in it soon . It will be followed by the end of the summer by a zc. What 5 spd trans that i buy bolt up to what i have now and the dohc zc when i get it? Is there such a animal? My last question is when i switch the front susp off the std(no swaybar hookups and of course zc knuckle axle stuf)do i buy my spring/struts for the new susp on the front or can i still buy that kind of stuff for the std setup? Ie if i put dx suspension uner my std do i order 2 dx spring for the front and 2 std springs for the rear? Kind of confusing

Preferably a CRX/Civic Si L3 tranny (more performance oriented gearing)... And it will bolt right upto a DOHC ZC... But you can also buy the DOHC ZC tranny, which some of them come in LSD and also have a good gear ratio for performance... Itll bolt right upto your stock engine until u decide to swap... But youll also need the axles and intermediate shaft...

But essentailly, what you need is a 5 speed D series cable tranny 88-91 Civic/CRX (92s and up were hydraulic and wont work without serious modifications)... And once you have that, itll bolt to either engine...

ive been looking at hondas for a while i guess but im still a straight-up n00b i can admit. i cant find jack about d15 builds, you know as well as a lot of people on here im on budgest especially since im 15. peoples told me to do a mini swap and thats all i know. that just means to put a d16 head on pretty much right?

I was considering both a zc sohc and dohc for my 90 std. Im not into balls out speed and i see there only about 10 hp diffrence. Is the sohc simplier to install? ie meaning parts wise. My 1.5 burns about a half a quart a week so im sure she will last but im going to swap anyway. I just need some input like trannys, ecu i know the std had odd half shafts will they work or will i need to buy new ones..will i have to do the dpfi to mpfi swap just fill me in please. I did search first but i cant really find what i need

yo what up ya'll, Im chris. im a regular on clubcivic.com and have been in the honda scene for a few years now. i have built a few cars and am looking to build a decent turboed d on a budget.
i had a 92 si with a b20 fully built that ran 13's, and then i had a 98 hatch that was my autocross queen.
now im back in the 5th gens with a 93 cx and just finished my swap of a d15b. now i'm looking to turbo that motor here shortly.
just figured i would introduce myself and give a couple pics of the ride.

Guess my first post should be in the noob forum. I usually don't build hondas, but a friend has decided to build his 95 civic ex. I've been using this forum for referencing what I need to reach his goal of 300hp. D16Z6, SRP 9:1 pistons, cometic .029 headgasket, 440 RC injectors, TT rods, block guard, ARP head studs, cast turbo manifold, t3/t4 turbo, Stock SRT-4 intercooler, etc. Going to use Ostrich along with crome 1.2 or similar for tuning. My biggest area of expertise lies with the Dodge SRT-4, so kinda curious how this is going to compare to the 550whp (348whp on the stock turbo, 552whp on the bottle)black srt-4 I'm in the process of final tuning for another friend of mine.

So far, this site has been extremely helpful with the little stuff as far as where the deals are and my main concern the engine management. I was going to be tuning with an SAFCII until I really started digging into what uberdata and crome could do, especially with the ostrich for live tuning. Believe this is gonna be a fun little car in the end.

Hello My name is Jason and it's too freakin early for this stuff! . . . name's Jason not Jasom can anyone help me fix that first? anyway I drive a pretty much stock 95 Civic DX - D15b7 only mods are a short ram intake and 17" Enkie DM5's my plans for it include...
Boost the Compression Ratio to around 11-12:1
Water Injection
4-2-1 Header and 2 1/4" exhuast to a 2 1/2"stainless fart can
ITB's off a Sport Bike or maybe D15b4 carb setup
Port & Polish the Head
Stage 2 Cam Swap
maybe a y8 head-swap (mmmmmmmmmh...VTEC)

and then maybe it wont be a Civic Type Slow anymore...

Hello from Colorado. Thin air sucks!!! I have a '90 CRX Si with a blown D16A6 (I guess I needed a little more power). I've got a (JDM) D15B VTEC to swap in, and have a 3-stage VTEC head (EDM) that I could swap on top of the 2-stage VTEC bottom. Are there differences in the block between the OBDI and OBDII D15Bs? Thanks.

UHFE CRX
07-03-2006, 07:58 PM
The CRX is lighter than the new Fit, and with this swap I hope to have more available HP, higher MPG, and +$10K in comparison. What that can buy is boost. Even if I lightly boost it, it might not need a re-mapped ECU because I'm over a mile high. That's called turbo-normalizing, but it is still boost.

Oh yeah, and did I mention it's a *deep breath* automatic!? Manny swapin' soon, no worries.

Well im new even tho I have already introduced myself I do have a noob Q so I thout I would ask it here. I want to MPFI swap my car and i would like a link or a site to a list of ALL the parts I need for the swap? I also have a 1990 CRX SI head, now iv been reading and from what iv learned that the head its self would give me better flow but would take my CR out the roof. But I think I read that the cam would help me out alot? But I cant find it now. SO any and all help would be awsome. Thanks again.

Was sup people... Noob here of course.

I have a civic Hx D16Y5 vtec-E. my tranny is making a running clicking noise and i was told to replace the tranny. I have Headers and intake and that is all the mods i have done. never replaced the head or even open it up, and never touch the tranny.

I am scared of getting a used tranny because it will give me more problems, but i guess that is the only thing i can do.

My questions is do I only have the option of a Y5 tranny? or is there something better?

Hi all, I'm Matt and I'm a complete n00b to this site and sort of a n00b with my d-series...1997 LX. I joined this forum to get advice on how to make my car quicker (not looking for a rocket, just some good fun.) The only thing I have for mods are an intake, stereo head unit and 17" wheels and tires. I also have a thule roof rack but that's not really a mod, it's just convenient for me because I mountain bike alot, haha. :) This site looks great, has a lot of helpful information, can't wait to start modding my car some more, and I'll post pics soon!

Cheers,
Matt

newbie here, have some really newbie questions since this is the first time i've actaully wanted to work on a car.

to start it off, i have a 97 civic ex. i currently have intake and muffler (not full exhaust) will be getting my headers soon and most likely customize my exhaust piping. i have heard people saying to get my timing advanced... what does it do? i have stock internals. also can i just unplug my ecu and get it tuned? is there such thing as tuning or modifying stock ecu? will i get gains? will it cause CEL? any problems when time for smog? i live in a state where i am away from my family and friends and i am just trying to keep myslef sane by working on a project car and keep myself busy. thanks in advance!

not, a n00b with Hondas, but I havent posted here in ahwile.

I fisrt used this site for some helped, and ideas. Since then I graduated to a "B" series, but theres still love for my other little "d". Im wanting to do more with my other Honda. Its a 91 Dx Hatch. Currently its stock, besides aftermarket lowering springs, muffler and OEM Honda alloys. I will post up some pics soon.

I recently started driving it again, after aquireing a job 50 miles away. Since I ve been heavy into auto-x and big motors. I wanted something to still give me that feel in this little hatch. So ive been looking at different motors, and am here to gain knowledge, and advice on where, and how to aquire the swap im looking for and how to perform it.

I know alot about my car, and Hondas, but not much about "D's" or the EF body. Hope to get what im looking for again.

Now let the flaming begine.

heyas

I been lurking the Forum for ages, I finally decided to register, because I needed some advice/ buying Help.

I have a 94 Civic Coupe Ex D16z6 I/H/E, I'm the OG owner, and have gone thru many bolt ons over the years, about 1 year ago the Coupe started falling apart do to age, little things, nothing major, but I'm at a point where either I will put more $$ into it, and make it a weekend Club Racer, or sell it off, and move on.

tough decisions since I do luv the light chassis, and have late braked many folks who have the tendency to follow me into corners. even though I'm not racing them.

anyway thanks for having this forum its been insightful, via the search engine
Now the big noob question " where are the Rules for this Forum?"
I did a search, and found several post, where ppl get tidbits of info, on regulations, and what not to do, but have not found an actual readme.

thx

Here are the unwritten/written rules..

-No nude avatars
-Don't sell or buy unless you have at least 65 posts or have permission from the admin (which you won't get)
-Try and stay on topic (it gets tough sometimes)
-Try not to start shit (again, its tough)
-Don't call anyone out
-No spamming
-Keep the nude shit in the VIP room or label it NWS (not work safe)

Other then that have fun... We don't have an official "rules" page, because we never really needed one... everyone seems to know what and what not to do, just use common sense and you will be fine.

Good luck.

recently acquired a zc gen crx that needed attention to go with my ew5 1.5i gen 1 crx which was also rescued from the wreckers. Looked for into on what to do with a zc, found this forum, liked it, and signed up.

Already a member of a couple of forums - red pepper racing in particular - and we have a local crx club in Perth (Western Australia) with 80 plus members, so it's all keeping my interest. The learning curve is great as well.

Project wise, I aim to do an itb build on the zc, n/a at first but turbo is starting to look very interesting. Why itb - it is reported to be difficult to do which i read as requiring thought and work and more thought and so on instead of $ (apologies if I offend) and its is easy ! to take in different directions. P;us here in Australia the direction is normally engine swap and turbo rather than use what you've got, so itb's will definitely be different.

I'll be a learner on this forum for a while. But if a club member does something inteesting i'l post details. Like a b20 frank n/a drag crx that's getting built.

Hello everybody I just joined this site not too long ago. I own a 99 Civic EX and also bought a 06 Civic SI last year. My 99 civic is my project car and has had almost everything changed on it. It has been a work in progress over the past year, but it is finally almost finished. In the process of changing and upgrading parts I have had a lot of things to get rid of. I joined this site to eventually sell some of my things and also check for useful information. Anyways hello to all and how many posts do I need before I can list my JE forged 77 MM pistons for sale???

I read the requirments for selling you have to have 65 post or something of that nature but do you have to meet that requirement to buy or view for sale items from members or am I just missing something. This is my first post.

Hey, so im a complete newb, lucky me, more stuff to learn about my new 1G CRX Si

I bought it a little over 6 months ago. Since then ive replaced the brake system, suspension, and the clutch only has 10,000 miles.

Im overdue on replacing the timing belt by 2000 miles, and since the engine has over 200,000 miles, i was thinking about just getting a new one instead

I got alot of friends with who of want me to refabricate the whole car to cram a new powerful engine into it, but i simply dont have the funds right now

My question is, are there any other engines, other then buying a rebuilt D15A3, where i wouldnt have to replace the clutch and transmission too

If im stuck getting a rebuilt stock engine, i will and just mod it up from there

thanks for the help

-Rich-

I"m from Minnesota (it's freakin cold here!) and i drive a 93 civic Lx sedan. i've had it for just over a year now, nothing much but a few exterior upgrades. i didn't think i was going to keep the car long because i was more of a toyota guy, but now i'm starting to lean towards honda for some reason!!!! but yeah, it's good to be apart of the dseries family.

I guess I'm as new as a noob can be - just got my car, just passed my test and have never really worked on cars until now.

I've got a '98 1.4i Civic EJ9 D14A4.

It's allegedly not much compared to other Civic's that are around but it's all mine and I figure I am gonna make the most of it, if for no other reason than the learning experience.

Apologies for picture. Terrible weather here at moment.

I have been watching this Forum for about a month now. I have been a Honda mechanic for the last 10 years and have in the past mainly concentrated on H series engines. No, not the VTEC sort, but the H23. Also another engine that no one gives much respect too. I have always viewed the D series as the pesky little brother that has a big mouth (usually) but I've always respected the CRX/Hatch cars for there power to weight ratio. The Preludes I've dealt with are a little on the chunky side, so now that I've sold all my Preludes, I picked up a 91 Civic Std. Hatch with all of its D15B1 70 HP/4-spd wonder. The engine now makes about 90 hp which is still obismal compared to my previous engines, but I have a D16A6/Si trans out of a CRX SI that I am building as we speak. I've been using the search function with good luck and my build will consist of the following:

-D16A6 block deck squared
-stock rods with ARP bolts
-P29 pistons with NPR rings
-mild port work on A6 head, stock size valves, competition 3 angle valve job, milled .060
-ARP head studs( to aid head gasket sealing with high compression)
-A6 intake gasket matched, stock TB, maybe someday a Holley 390 cfm 4V carb (that would realy piss some people off, I mean really am I sick or what?)
-Cam will either be a Bisimoto stage 3 or ???? since Crane and some others no longer make new shafts or regrinds. (I am working on a new cam grinder who regrinds V8 cams for me)
-Ebay CAI, Ebay header (until I butcher it to make my own header)
-stock SI trans and ignition

Any suggestions or thoughts?
I am an experienced engine builder with 15 years experience. This is my first dive into a D series though. And I'm not a fan of VTEC, I think its a crutch. But thats just my opinion so don't be offended.

NOt to say that I know it all but just got into it nonethe less , so hi all...

Now to a problem that I have, for my 89 si rex I swapped my d16a6 for d16y7 I did it b/c the a6 needs rebuilding, y7 just replacement for transportation purposes. I reused my a6 tranny, dizzy, intake. I have everything plugged that had a place to go. the only problem I ran into was the alternator, had to wire it in due to pulley differences.

problems are:

I turned the key to the all the way on position and my main realy went apeshit...kept clicking,I turned it off.... whats that from?

If I got the two wires going from the alty into the ecu backwards what would happen? would it cause above prob?
(there's no way to determine from the manuals that I have which of the two alterns ecu wires were the output and input wires, ther not labeld for the a6 alty)

sounds good/expensive...only thing i would suggest, is a blox Intake mani instead of skunk, or edelbrock...just a little cheeper, but good quality...oh and a five speed swap, would be a much better investment than a lot of the above items.

Hello, I'm new to the site but not quite new to Honda's. I have many friends who drive Honda's and I learned how to drive a 5 speed on a CRX with a ZC. I no longer have that car but would like to have another Honda, I really like the '89-'91 hatch. I currently drive a '93 240SX. I learned about this site from a fellow member, that POS hulkbuster, and I have to say that I'm enjoying the site. My knowledge of Honda's is basic, very basic so I'll be doing a lot of reading and researching to familiarize myself more with the platform.

What's up guys... I thought that this would be a pretty fitting place for a first post. Right now I got my second ek this one is a 99.... my first was a 97... I was attempting a k20 swap in my last and i wound up totaling the 97 before I got all the parts... starting over from scratch now 4 yrs later.. We'll see how it goes... the ek I got now is from Buffalo and has a lot of surface rust but everything that's rusted is pretty much gunna be replaced in time. I'll keep ya'll updated on my ride as it comes along... thanks in advance for not flaming.

Whats up? Hey, I have some questions about building my car, but first! I am 6'1", 305 and surgical with a pistol of any caliber so keep the smart ass comments to a dull roar. (Just joking, I can take it)

Well first things first

I live in Lakeland, Florida

I own a 1999 Civic Ex coupe. I am building a Sound Quality competition vehicle to compete in IASCA, NOPI, USAC and what ever else I can get in to.

I have the audio thing down, some cars I have done have been published in different tuner mags and Car Audio & Electronics magizine. I have big name sponsors and hook ups for that sort of thing.

What I dont have is a clue on what to do with this engine. At first I wanted to swap to a B16A2 but thats alot of $$$$. I just need something fun to drive and looks nice for show.

So far I have added DC Ceramic coated header and an Injen cold air intake. I intend on replacing my intake with a Skunk2 intake and a larger throttle body. I am going to replace my existing exhaust with a magnaflow 2.25 full exhaust. Probibly go with an MSD ignition and Nology wires. Aside from going turbo what else can I do? I am not afraid of going internal witht this motor, but want to hit all the bolt on crap first and evaluate it from there.

I haven't really noticed anythin with the two upgrades I have done thus far, other than the intake sounds good under heavy acceleration.

Someone poor thier nast, cheezy wisdom out to me.

I am failry new at this stuff so it appears I need help with this as well.

if you post in the noob section or the party and bullshit section, it doesn't count towards your posts. umm, try not to put so many pics in one post i guess, or resize them using photobucket.com

Hi there guys and gals.....I'm Cliff
I am new to the honda scene. I just picked up a 1996 civic hatch. It's an auto (i know, yuck) but it only has 52,000 miles on it and runs like a dream. I paid 4300 for it and couldn't be happier. I am looking into the mini-me swap with a turbo for now, with a manaul trans and motor swap most likely in the future. The car is pretty much stock (intake and shocks/springs), but won't be for long. Hopefully I can find out all the info for my mini-me swap in this site.
