Battery relocation

Hey guy's, Im getting ready to relocate my battery to the back of my Hatchback. Ive got the box and the wire. Do I need to put a fuse on the pos+ wire inbetween the battery and starter somewhere?

Also, you may want to consider putting your battery in a location other than all the way in the back.

Without a long explanation of the physics involved, the best spot for your battery is as low and as centered in your car as possible. On my 1st Gen CRX, I put the battery on the floor directly behind the passenger's seat.

I use a gel cel battery (a generic brand, do not duped into spending too much on a "name" brand). I use a riding lawn mower battery for the low weight and small size.

If you plan on annoying your neighbors with your poor taste in music with a monster system, buy a couple of the largest batteries you can afford.

Thanks for the info cbstd. Wish I could stick it behind the passenger seat. But, I have two sons that keep getting bigger and for the next 5-10 yrs the back is going to be full most of the time. That means one long ass wire. What thickness (gauge) should I buy? 2 - 4?

1 guage is the wire to use and put the fuse closest to the battery so as if it frays or gets chafed the batt wont explode!! Electrical is like hoses, to keep up the pressure and flow you need to get thicker and shorter. So if you need to go long get even thicker.

1 gauge is a bit much. 4 gauge will do fine if under 10 feet in length. Then I'd go for 2 gauge. Make sure you get a sealed battery too (Optima as example).

I moved my battery in my CRX to the back for space under the hood. Used 4 gauge from the starter and fuse box at 9 1/2 feet each. Then 1 1/2 feet of 4 gauge for the ground. Never a problem.

Not everyone spends all their time on the drag strip or racing on the street- some of us like to hit the road courses or run around some cones. More even front/rear weight distribution helps you handle better.

Some cars have to move the battery to the back. Like in my EF, the battery won't fit under the hood with a turbo kit installed.

I moved my battery to the trunk, then used the stock battery tray to mount the MSD ignition. Next I am building a sealed box, and putting the battery behind the passenger seat. That way I can vent it outside the car.

Battery in back allows for other mods up front. CAI, Turbo, etc. .

Oh man....I moved mine for CAI, and I found the former battery area as a nice place to mount my ZEX box.
