View Full Version : Any way to enliminate the speed limiter?
does anyone know what can be done to enliminate the speed limiter?
other then using a RSM or changing/chipping the ECU?
any other piggy back stuff that can do that?
Thanks :)

A cheap and ease way is diconnect you speed senser, granted you don't wanna know how fast you are going, o.k. nevermind that, jet or hypertech might have something out for that, other then that I don't know.

If you have a friend that knows elecrinics he can put some kind of resistor or chip to take care of that. My friend use to make money on the side ($15-$25) by doing this, he is an ARMY Electronic Maint Teach. If it's a governor it's real simple to do...

I think you may be able to get away from the speed limiter by switching year model ECU's.I have a '94 DX and it has a limiter, but a friend of mine had a '93 DX-no limiter,he now has a '92 SI-no limiter,my wife has a '92 LX-no limiter.Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

They all should have speed limiters. As for unhooking the speed sensor this will make the car run diffrently cause there are too many factors going into the comp including speed sensor equp. I did this once on a 94 ex and ran like crap, when ran for over a year (did it to keep miles down) pluged it in and ran even worse........... sold car end of problem!!! Go get it chiped by jet or get the field.

care to explain how to do that?... I mean what resistor or chip and where to put it?... I know the Field's Vtec controller does that but I already have the Apexi VAFC so I don't want to down grade .... or get another one

Are you looking to throw a rod? Your stock bottom end is designed to withstand only so many rpms, you go past redline and you are asking for problems.
Your stock cam and valve springs are only designed up to redline. If you go past red line with a stock valve train, your cam will be past peak power and your valves will float.

I might be mistaken, but it was my understanding that USDM ECUs only had a rev limiter, not a speed limiter per say...is this correct? I know my car doesn't seem to be afflicted with one (although I haven't exactly tached out 5th gear to 100% verify that theory). I have a stock P28 in my 95 EX.

USDM have both a rev limiter and a governor. Which is probably just as well since a bone stock d16 shouldnt be doing 130+. Just work on getting to your max speed quicker, Youll achieve a better result. Honestly in a street race, its whoever gets through all their gears redline to redline first who wins.

Had a Y7 with CAI doing 130... No governor

Id love to see a d16y7 civic with a rev limter set over 110. unless you unplugged the speedometer.

my Y8 out of the box runs 120 at 6500 in 4th gear (the red lines at 7400), could do way over 120 if there was no speed limiter

Get a hold of Zerodaze from ALt honda. He can send you a chipped ECU in exchange for yours under 100 bucks. OR...get a DIY kit off EBAY like I did and wha-lah no more speed limiter. I called the company I bought it off of and told them I only wanted the speed limiter removed NOT the rev limiter or any fuel maps changed. The kit cost me 35 bucks and it took all but an hour to install. If you can solder, you can do it. the next day I took my car up to 135+ with plenty on the tach before I got too scared lol. Not a very nice ride at that speed hehe very VERY hard to control!!! I'll try it again with better wheels, tires, suspension. Mind you this is on a stock suspension 95 Cx hatch with POS tri start rims lol. (one is bent)

not to be cpt. obvious, but before you fly off into the sunset at insane speeds, check the speed rating of your tires

When I first bought my 95 Del Sol Si I topped out at 126 with no signs of a speed limiter. In my grandma's 94 LX 4 door I topped it out at 117 and the speed limiter came right in. On my friends 92 DX 4 door he was at the rev limiter in 4th(around 120) but then once he hit 5th the gear was so tall that his speed would decrease. So not all american made hondas came with speed limiters. Mine was a D16Z6 and the others were D15 motors.

i have no idea if my car has a rev-limiter... because it's balls are too small!... where i live the highways consist of very large hills... so by the time i get to the bottom of one hill around 110, i start going up the next and begin losing speed then by the time i start going down the next one im doing 105 again... then i ride with my friend in his mustang and he does 150 up the hills and makes my car feel like a shopping cart when you push it too fast!
