That intake works really well actually. Could benefit more from a larger bore TB, but outperforms all previous intakes I have had. In case you have never heard it it, the intake is a copy of the J's racing carbon fiber intake, and is available from the SCO store at dragracing.com. I highly recommend it!

really? wow

Dont make fun of me for asking but Does it sound good? I like a to be able to hear my intakes. Makes the other cars nervous and kinda sounds cool. :D

Heh, thread jacking, but I'll post my pic later. Anyway, about that large intake, if I am correct it's a Simota intake. http://www.simota.com.au/HTML/Airfilterkits_c.htm My bestfriend had that before on his EK Civic.

it comes out of the TB turns at a 45 deg towards the headlight, goes to where the stock air box sits and turns a 90 deg down into the front of the wheel well, then 45s again in the bumper and sits 4 in behind bumper right where the outer grills on a 6.5 gen (99-00) coupe are. I would post pics of mine but the only ones I have are when I cut it in half to run it in the snow, so the other half isnt on in any of my pics................

And yes that's a JDM Mazda Rotary T3 stuffed in there. Dual vein exhaust housing spools up pretty nice. Whatcom Radiator made me the custom rad for $220, eg size except 3 times the core thickness: :D $900 overall into this including hi-temp coatings, VAFC, Manifold parts, downpipe, and the 450 DSM's. Also took about 3 weeks of test fit, weld, test fit, test drive, then send parts for coating.

I've cleaned it up a little, ran the rear water line going to turbo behind it and tapped it into the plug in the water jacket. Lots of speghetti tho compared to my 2 RX-7's I had. Thinking about gunmetal valve cover and charge pipe when I do the white compartment.

Darn, all the old pics got deleted...its like losing a second hard drive...

BTW, did anyone previously post a pic of a stock 96-98 y8 exhaust header w/o the heatshield that could post it again? I've been searching for almost 2 hours for pics of one and I ran out of luck.

It's a little dirty right now, but I am eventually going to clean it really well. I am probably going to paint my valve cover the same color as my charge piping.

why the stock air box ?

Charles
03-30-2004, 06:56 PM
Because I don't think that CAI add that much to the HP, they often whistle, I like the stock look, and I ran out of money at that point! If you notice, there is no intake across the top of the radiator. Instead I removed the resonator and suck in air from below the bumper. Kind of a CAI without the expense and look. K&N drop in filter.

My one stick wonder...Its hard keeping a turbo motor look spotless, know what I mean? My color scheme is a duplicate of my mechanic's full blown race car civic...Yea, the turbo?!? B16?!? in the pic. Boy it was nice of him to do that. Chevy orange block and silver stripes on the valve cover, also painted chevy orange.

What a difference some simple green and some paint+time can make.
was bored this week, so I cleaned and painted some shit in my bay...

Before and after...

Steve-O
07-21-2004, 01:56 PM
Nice work pmachan. its amazing what a little water, degreaser and some brute force will do to make an engine bay look nice.

i did the same thing with mine the morning of the big car show in town here except i used Spray Nine. it left a few spots on some things so i think i may go back to Simple Green. only thing is I was told by a few people that Simple Green Automotive in the black spray bottle with the fancy green and checkered flag label is a tad hard on the paint (it smells like a diluted version of Castolr Super Clean but not near as brutal on paint).

i guess as long as you dont let it sit on there forever you'll be okay.

another little touch i use is to spray EAGLE ONE TIRE WET on everything under the hood (except the paint). it goes on really wet and drippy looking but once it fades away it leaves a nice even satiny coating on everything. makes your hoses look like new and really brings out valve covers and plug wires. best part is it seems to not attract dust near as bad as you would think and you can use your Simple Green to clean it off later if you choose. i have been using it for a while now whenever i have to make the engine bay look nice once ive degreased it. i like it because its clear, smells good and has no silicone in it like Armour All and the rest of them. I think all the other companies have a similar product too that's clear.

give it a shot next time you Simple Green your engine. just spray everything liberally with it and let it sit for a while. what i like to do is to leave the hood closed after i spray it and then when you open it you'll be like :hyper:

Steve-O
07-21-2004, 02:28 PM

Althought I do not attend shows as much I used to or would like to, I still enjoy taking a Saturday afternoon out to clean the car top to bottom to keep it mint all the time. Once every 4-6 weeks depending on the weather I like to jack the Civic up and remove all the wheels, bumpers and side skirts and clean everywhere i can't get normally. Some might say it's a bit excessive but when you're mid-piping is gleaming like the muffler and your suspension looks brand new through your wheels, it's definitely something to be proud of.

i remember when i could go out and spend a couple grand to buy parts and now its come to the point now where i am having to seriously SAVE up for my Spoon front lower tie and Skunk2 rear sway bar :-?

P.S. hit that engine with some Simple Green or Spray Nine and when it's dry, coat everything with that clear tire wet spray (I use eagle one) and it will look mint

I think you should have went with the NGK blue wires instead of the ACCELs. NGKs are a better quality wire and it would flow with the blue you already have in the engine bay.

It's a work in progress; You know how that goes. Progress goes slow when the money don't roll. I had it painted Viper yellow before I purchased the body kit, so now I'm waiting to put it on till I can have it repainted.

I bought my pkugs from www.importrp.com (http://www.importrp.com/) and they weren't expensive at all. For the D15B7 engine the part # for my wires was like HE-71 or something and for your D16 VTEC the part # is HE-73.

Here is the link to the page with them all listed: http://www.importrp.com/catalogm.php?man=30&type=72&year=26&year_name=1995

The VTEC wires are $5.00 cheaper than those for non-VTEC engines.

Just ordered them from the website. Thanks for the link; it was the cheapest I had seen. Can't wait to get them, might also help break up some of the yellow. Slick hatch you got there; looks like the one I used to have, except then I was too young to know what a d16 was. It had wheels, but that was it.

Thanks for the compliment man.

Compare the fitment and quality of the ACCELs to the NGKs and you'll see why so many people recommend them. I bought the ACCELs and within days of seeing the NGKs I had ordered a set and sold the ACCELs to a friend. I'll never buy anything other than NGK.

Glad I could be of help Strokerd16 :TU:

The blue was just a quickie to cover up the original color, red. I'm putting a body kit on it, lambo doors, and molding in a custom set of taillights. I just got another Civ for an everyday and put the yellow one in my garage. As soon as I finish removing everything out of the engine compartment (and I mean everything), I'm going to mold in the kit and the "yellow" will be replaced with a metal flake magnesium color, including the engine bay. I'll post the pics when the projects done.

Very nice what are your plans for her?
For now, I'm working on just getting a header...but after that (once I'm done with school) I think I'm going to work on building it up and probably turbo it! I had a turbo before...and loved it!!! I really want to see how much my d16 can take... ;-)
