A1 block stick with the A1 stuff. ZC block use ZC stuff. I've used A1 cams in my ZC but they were regrinds. I've seen conflicting info on the actual cam issue.

Here's how it works. If you want to use ZC stuff you need cams, gears, belt and crank pulley.

Alternative is just ZC cams with aftermarket gears but the timing marks will not line up as marked because they key on a bit differently. Then dyno.

Teeth on the ZC cam gears and crank pulley are different than the A1. Can't mix and match. The crank turns twice for one rev of the cam gear. I think I got that right way round. ZC cam gear 34T vs A1 40T. ZC crank gear 17T vs A1 20T.

Make sense?

Edit: Just remembered where this came from. Read this and will be clear as mud. http://www.d-series.org/viewtopic.php?t=236

Im getting some racing cams...can I use them in a ZC with no problem? They are ment for the D16A1.

Now there's a poser? Let's think about this logically.

1. The ZC cam gears are non adjustable. Therefore the A1 racing cam keyway would line up differently and everything would be out of time.

I suppose if you dialed them in prior to putting on the belt it may work although if the keyway puts it off one tooth you're still out of timing. Trial and error system.

2. If you use adjustable cam gears for the A1 racing cam the ZC's timing could be adjusted but they have too many teeth for a ZC, therefore you would have to use an A1 crank gear to match 2 for 1 problem.

Does that make any sense? What do you think? JS

A little clarification is now required. I have now found out more about the cam gears. Hopefully after the weekend I will have pictures of an 87 ZC to make absolute certain on this issue.

1G ZC cam gears (86-89) - 4 bolt valve cover are 40 teeth, the same as the D16A1

2G ZC cam gears (89-91) are the ones with 34 teeth which are apparently like the B series cam gears. 8 bolt valve cover
