Hi guys, my girlfriend drives a 97 DX w/o PS. She has about had it with that set up. So being the caring boyfriend that I am i thought i would ask the gurus here what would be involved in adding power steering to a car that never had it. Thanks guys

i was going to put power steering into my dx but alot of people said it would not work right since it didnt come factory, so i didnt do it ... but they where going to put it in for like 250 so i guess you could look to spend around that for installing.. if your around the ny area i can give u the person who dose it.

You will probably need the pump, belt, and pully that attaches to the crank. I think I got mine somplace in my garage... You are talkin about some work if you don't have the pully disk (don't know the proper term) that is attached to the crank.

Good Luck

One of my buddies at work thinks i might need a steering rack out of an LX or EX. Does that sound right to you guys?

Yeah thats right... Good f*ckin luck!!! You know this is kina strange, I went to honda for a non power steering rack to put in my car and they were like, "yeah we don't make one!" Man, the Honda people that work at my local Honda suck!

The dealers I've delt with are only interested in OEM and selling new cars. They don't know a damn thang bout tuning!

your car has a "manuel" rack this is what is in non power steering civics, you need to get a "auto" rack which comes in powersteering civics. manuel and auto racks does NOT mean transmision
i took out my power steering on my hatch and converted to a manuel rack which allows it to steer easier with out power steering.
if you dont replace the rack you may have accesivly easy steering making the car very hard to control.
try going to a salvage yard to get a rack from a civic w/powersteering i got my manuel rack for 80 dolars.

you will ned alot of stuff for this set up. ps pump, ps resuvar, rack, ps cooler, possibly even a new crank pulley depending if there is a open groove for the belt.
