Anyone know how to make my exhaust quieter? I cant stand it being loud. As of right now, my 91 LX is stock. But, I have a header and possibly an intake going onto it soon. How would I muffle the sound more?
Would a larger resonator be better? Custom piping is what I figure is needed...but what configuration?
also, I'll be doing a DX to SI conversion (just the manifold), so the engine will breathe better.

it's all in the muffler. get a magnaflow or dynomax super turbo. both are fairly quiet

a magnaflow is about as quiet as a sonic boom, but I've heard that the dynamax's are nice and fairly quiet.
a resonator typically changes the tone, but doesn't really make it quieter.
What do you currently have for your exhaust setup?

maybe try smaller piping. what is the diameter as of right now?

all of GReddy's exhaust are db compliant ... so if your looking to be legal ... go with GReddy ...

I've seen recommendations for a Moroso spiral exhaust instead of resonator. However, they start at 2.5" so it would probably only apply to NA situations.
I have a Flowmaster Delta 50 (2.25" in and a pair of 2" out) on my CRX Si and whether it is good or not, I don't know. But it does have a nice deep sound. I am changing out the cat and adding a Thrush resonator to cut down on the highway drone.

RSR Ex-mag is very quiet as well. I got one to replace my deafening magnaflow cat-back.

why do so many people use magnaflow ?? and what magnaflow mufflers are yall using ?? i wanna see what exhaust everyone keeps talking about ... ???
My magnaflow muffler came with my Litespeed exhaust (CRX Si, 1990), and it's loud. The top end really opened up though. Flowmaster now makes mufflers for small displacement engines and I believe I'll give them a try.

magnaflow makes quality exhaust systems. I kept reading posts where people claimed how quiet they were... So I bought one... They were wrong... I had a complete magnaflow cat-back, not a custom setup.
I had this one :

If you can deal with the noise, it is a nice exhaust.

i had a dynomax super turbo on my last hatch with OEM B-pipe, and it was very nice. not too loud at all, and had a great tone.
i now have the apexi WS on my race hatch, and it is pretty quiet. it's loud when you get on it, but like OEM when cruising or on the highway.

i run the dynomax super turbo system with a 2-1/4" mid pipe and resonator on my 99 hatch as well, can't be happier very quiet and very stealthy looking. i've also run a z-speed (which i love just too loud) and a greddy pe which was nice but got progressively louder with age so i had to get rid of it.

also a lot of ppl put those glass packed cherry bomb mufflers right after the cat...acting as a resonator...so basically u'd have 2 muffles

sorry for not answering all of you're guys' questions...i haven't been able to get online!.
My exhaust currently is stock. I have an OBX 4-2-1 header that I would like to use. I also will be using a "home made/home depot" CAI (looks more stock than a metal pipe).
I basically want to try to hide the fact that I actually have something under the hood. Sleeper +++ (I want it to look stock)

I completely agree with u. i have the greddy exhaust and i am very happy with it. Alittle on the pricey side, depending on where u get it. But well worth the extra cost.

I checked greddy's website, and they dont make anything for the 88-91 sedans. I've always known that the sedans are hard to get exhaust systems for...but damn...noone makes a quiet exhaust for 'em :(

ahhh damn .. no parts for the 88-91 sedans .. that sucks .. you can always custom fabricate a muffler with some small diameter piping and then get a resonator .. im sure that would make it quiet ..

Well, the lack of available parts for the sedan (Exterior) is not a problem, since stock looks best on the sedans...under the hood, I can just find stuff for the CRX/Hatch...but exhaust is the exception :(

okay, if you want it to look sleeper than how about custom bent piping in 2.25 in. for n/a or 2.5-3.0 for forced iduction, mandrel bent is best. then put in a 24 in. resonator and a flow thru muffler in the stock location w/o a tip on the end. btw this is my set-up, on a '91 sedan. the muffler i'm using is a hooker aerochamber it's quiet even at wto.
I just got a hi-flow cat, 2" piping and Flowmaster 40series on my old ladies hatch today. much louder than stock. Needs a resonator defintely. Anyone heard of using glasspacks as a resonator/silencer? Was mentioned to me today.
