Problem with oil pres

I have a civic 97 ex, when the vtec activated the oil pres switch at 5500 rpm the oil psi drop from 80psi to 40psi. I have a problem with the vtec that not activate when the oil pres droop so much. What is the oil PSI before and after the vtec engage.

When VTEC engages, the pressure will drop. But it should only just be a "blip" on the gauge.
