tons of questions!

so much stuff is bouncing around in my noobie head that i finally need some answers(or pics)!

1) does anyone have pics of an automatic Y8 IM and a manual Y8 IM? what are the differences and how can it be fixed if you have the wrong one? any differences between the years?

2) is there a difference between a Y7 camgear and a Y8? how many teeth on each gear if they are different? i have a skunk2 camgear(38 teeth) that i bought off of some guy with the impression that all the sohc's are the same! it seems to match up with the Y8 stock one but i'd like to play it safe!

3) from what i understand the only difference between an automatic engine and a manual one is the cam, correct? when buying an after market cam, is it safe to assume that they are all made for manual cars?

4)is an automatic tranny for a Y8 different than the Y7 or are all the auto trannies the same? is there any one that can help make an auto tranny bullit proof(other than level10) or someone that specializes in auto trannies?

i know these questions are retarded, as well as having been asked b4 but my searches turned up nothing, so i ask those with knowledge for help!!!

1. a auto y8 IM can work on a 5spd but not sure if the 5spd can work with an auto.
2.y7 and y8 cam gear are the same, but not all D's are the same.
3.false, the cams are the same for both.
4.there is a couple people using auto trannies in hear i'm sure they can help. but i know they can take more than you would think.

lol 2redstars .. a manual will work on an auto .. my mechanic made it work .. all you have to do is plug the EACV ( for 5spd, back of manifold ) holes ... thats the only difference ..

- just look at the backs of the manifolds .. the auto is smooth .. and the 5spd has 2 holes for the EACV ( electronic air control valve )

- im rockin an auto y7 tranny ( :? long gears suck ) y8 auto tranny is better ... shorter gears, im actually on the hunt for one right now ... ive also heard you can get a LSD for y8 auto trannys ... ill keep u posted if i hear different .. keeps you in your powerband after shifts ... from what ive heard ... if you want a bullet proof auto tranny .. go to level 10 in jersey ... they are the supreme auto tranny masters ... also a tranny cooler along with a torque convertor should help out until you can get mega bucks for level 10 work ... there are a few other small differences in the auto and 5spd motors ( sensors , wires )

is this only for sohc's? i have read of guys buying jdm engines that were auto and the quick fix was to get the manual cam. auto's incorperate smaller camshafts creating a lower horsepower rating, correct? thats why i thought there was 10 less horse on an auto b16!?!?

Hmmm, I thought the auto made less hp cuz of the tranny inability to convert power as good as the manual... I might be wrong though! :cry:

umm nah .. i dont ... me and my friends have just decided .. next thing im gonna do is swap my auto tranny with a 5spd ... time to go manual .. no more automatic for me ... :?

hey, good seeing a familar face(you know what i mean!!!)!!! i want to f23k around with my D before i give up on it. you can't give up on something if you haven't even tried!!! :D from the looks of things i should be able to get some pretty respective hp out of it!!!
