First time on the site, I am contemplating putting a bit of cash into my girlfriends car and this mini-me swap sounds like a winner, cheap and very functional. The car is a 1999 DX Coupe with a muffler, that's about it...so what I need to know is if there is a step by step post or website about this swap. NOT ON ANY OTHER CIVIC just the d16y7 to the d16y8 IM and Head.
I know this topic has been discussed to sh*t but I'm hoping someone will take pity on me seeing as she got the car last week and my enthusiasm for imports is in it's early stages
thanks for your time guys

only advice that i can give to you is this...... don't do the swap without getting the proper trans cause you won't be satisfied with just the head. also read a service manual about how to swap a head. only thing different it that you need to pull the oil jet out from the non vtec block. use the timing belt that matches the head you will be useing and figure out if you want to stay obd2 or swap over to obd1.

Welcome to the site!!! Just do a "mini me" search and you will find all your answers. They are step by step instructions and a TON of info about the swap on this site. Good luck!

Yeah if you get a hold of a y8 tranny you'll be a whole lot happier with performance. I been in a y7 once or twice...dang, long gears.

but all of the write-ups are for different mini-me setups. what i am looking for is a step by step(I am mechanically challenged) post or page about my specific setup. I know that there are lots of posts that i could peice together but I just want to know if there is a really complete site for my application

There is VERY little differences between the D's. There are a poop load of resources on this site if you search. If you need to be babied with the exact instructions for ur exact engine...well... you might wanna to reconsider doing the head swap.
Oh yea, fmidrc racer is absolutely correct.

there is no oil jet in the y7 block, doesnt need one. all y8 and y7 parts are interchangable, take the y7 head off, put y8 head on. put the y8 intake manifold on while your at it. hear is a link for that- http://www.makuragi.s5.com/civic_99/Y8maniswap/
get a vafc to control vtec. this is one of the easiest head swaps to do.

i have done the swap 2 times (first time a put a vx head on my car) and have dissabled my valve train many times. i have done allot of mini me stuff to my car. i have had it without the trrans swap, with the trans, and many different mods in between. checkout this link and read all 3 pages.

maybe you should consider changing the transmission first.
it is the best upgrade to do

If you do decide to go with the mini me swap make sure that you get ALL the necessary parts to go with your particular setup. Nothing sucks worse than when you have your engine taken apart then when you try and go put it back together you are missing something that you need. Do lots of research then accumulate the parts for as cheap as possible then go to town. Search the internet it has everything that you need to know. Haste makes waste and I know from experience.
