I've got a 2000 civic EX, im new to the whole import scene and my buddies keep telling me i should do a motor swap, but ive heard the d16y8 is a great motor, what do i need to do to unleash some great power without swapping?

turbo .. forged internals .. head work ... and some good fuel management ... then you'll have all the power you need ... if you wanna go n/a ... headers, intake, cat back exhaust is a good place to start .. then skunk2 manifold .. and think about a 50 shot of nitrous .. that should shut your friends up about swapping ... tell them to swap their moms .. not your motor ...

I agree !!

But remember B-Series are stronger, and can handle more with sotck internal, more displacement, head flow more, twin cam, they are already made  for sports car... there is some advantage to modify a B-series, BUT:

D-series cost less to swap or replace if you need it, parts are a lot cheaper, less weight than B-series. they can handle a lot of hp too when modified a little bit, don't need to fuck with new wiring, no fit here and fit there, easier to get part at scrapyard :)
a little bit simple to do mechanic or anything else with D-series :)

I'm proud to 'smoke' integra with my small d-serie, it proves that I can do better with less ;) My wife said it too

It really depends on what you want to do. You can build a d-series to outrun a stock b16 and maybe a stock b18 for less than what it would cost to do the swap.

You can turbo the d-series for a little less than the cost of a b16 swap and outrun just about any stock honda engine.

However if you have big goals, then the b-series may be a better route. It just all depends on how much power you are trying to make and how much money you are willing to spend.

Personally, I'm going for a fast daily driver that can handle auto-x and some driving school / track days. I'm not into the street racing and 1/4 mile stuff. So with that in mind, I decided to build my d-series. Looks like I can get the power that I want without having to deal with a turbo. One of the reasons that I steered away from turbo is because it would put me in a different class for some of the auto sports that I want to do.

true b motors are obviously built for racing ... but you look at prices for b series parts ... and you wonder why some people have 3 jobs to support their " B habbit ' that shit is retarded ... spending 4900 bucks on a GReddy turbo kit for your Integra ... with 5000 dollars ... you could do EVERYTHING to a D .. and it will still smoke that Integ motor with the 5000 dollar turbo kit ...
