View Full Version : Which Component System?

What Da Problem Is
09-18-2005, 04:14 PM
I took my sub out of my car because it weighs a ton. I would like to know what everyone prefers for a good component system. So I can still have really good sounding music without all the weight. I have owned MB QUARTS before and really liked them but not sure if I should them again?

you get what you pay for with components, and put the subs back in, they're not that heavy.

I have Pheonix Gold "tantrum" series components, they are fucking awesome.

Infinity or Alpine. Best bang for your buck. JLs are nice too, but are kinda harsh if not tuned properly with an EQ

Don't listen to Steve...he probably hasn't taken his medication today! hahaha

I say keep the subs out...waste of space and weight!

I say keep the subs in. You dont race on a track every day sheesh..see my post in the races section them head over to my post here and check out what I run with on the street AND at the track. Weight reduction is over-rated.

Boston Acoustics
MB Quart
Kicker
Infinity

Those are my choices in order of preference.

or maybe its just that i'd rather be comfortable and have an enjoyable ride in my economy car instead of thinking saving a few pounds is gonna make me a racecar.

I'd start with

Dynaudio, then BA's, hate MB Quarts, always too bright.

Of course I haven't tuned a system in 7 years, but the Dyn's were pure heaven! I know I sat in the demo vehicle for over a hour. I liked them so much I went out and got MY CD's I used to tune with.

I don;t recall what subs for sure were being used, but the inverted ID's seem to fit my memory.

These are High Quality Components .... All sound Good But Bostons or Infinities are the way to go if your not into Boomin down the streets with your windows down! MB Quartz I never liked their Highs like Trans says they are a bit on the Bright Side when volume is turned up.

MB quart discus..........5.1/4...........and yes they are a bit bright when new, but after I got about 200 hours on them, they rock..........

Has BA done anything about their prices? Last I saw, a set of components cost in excess of $300 :? That's my main beef with BA and mostly why I don't use them. They sound nice, yes, but not as good as what you pay for them.

I have MB Quart premiums and they are great...

However... for my new car i will be going with Focal Utopias... they are amazing... but pricey

Yeah exactly...I'm sure if I had extra money laying around I'd probably buy that kind of stuff...but there is just so much I'd rather buy for my car over that ya know...I guess it's priorities...ok I'm done! :hijacked:

See that just goes to show you. Women are WORSE listeners than men!! Even when we try to talk to them it goes through their hearing filters and comes out all garbled anyways. And they wonder why we dont listen to what THEY say bahaha.

Where did you get that from this thread????? :hammer:

When I was referring to audio stuff... I meant like subs and amps and all that crap...not speakers to replace my stock ones...and fyi the reason I even have them is because my stock ones were blown...hahaha!

I meant it like this...if we were sitting in a bar chatting I could say anything, it wouldnt matter. I wouldnt try to impress or speak intelligently because women just dont really care what you have to say (their mind is already made up) lol. Now put that towards this topic and speakers. Hell if they play then that works for you right? Not the brand, the sound quality, the clearity, power handling, mounting depth etc just as long as they make sound. But, I like them to sound clean, clear and crisp and not just some reporduced sound from a halfassed setup hehe. See where I'm going with this? Or where I went...whatever. I'm lost now hah!

Ummm actually that is not true...the reason I don't care isn't because I just want something that sounds "pretty" or have my mind made up so why bother listening...it's called an opinion and that's mine....it's because in my opinion it's a waste of money...I don't need it to be hella loud to enjoy it...and I would much rather spend my money on performance over audio anyday! I understand some people do enjoy buying this stuff and that's great because it's what they want to do! So please stop making those generalizations about women...esp if you're going to include me in it...because I'm not like that at all! :TD:

if you are amping them you can go with something like a focal , mb quart, diamond audio , alpine type r, somethign a little higher end .. so to speak ... if not hell just run over to circuit city and get the inifinity reference set they sound great and dont need a ton of power ..

... if not hell just run over to circuit city and get the inifinity reference set they sound great and dont need a ton of power ..

Even so, with an amp they sound 10x better. My friend has a set running off an old Alpine V-Flex series amp that puts out 27W RMS per channel, and the sound is amazing on it compared to his head unit.

If that's the one thing I do not understand...it's audio crap...you guys lost me after the first post...hahaha!!!!

aftermarket speakers should be amped... otherwise you arent getting the potential that you paid the money for out of them

you are correct aftermarket speakers should be amped , thats preaching to the choir my friend .. BUT cost effective means of decent sound . we could go back and forth about what sounds good and what doesnt ... but being cist effective with decent sound ... you can always get better - if you amp them you can tune it for starters ...
i dont tune wiht bass and treble, or any sound enhancements when i have amps i leave them all at 0 where the should be . if i dont amp them i turn the bass down to -1 or -2 depending :slap:

I got regular Alpine speakers up front. Type S, With a layer of dynamite behind them to stop the rattles, with an Alpine head unit, and i cant complain. I wish i had the 1150 Watt system i had in my Mustang but it weighs a lot. But if you want a good sub then get a Solobaric L7 with an amp, or an Alpine Type R sub. Both are great and provide plenty of bass.
