View Full Version : Going turbo in the future....fuel/spark upgrades for now?

As silly as this sounds....would I gain any HP by installing the just the fuel and spark upgrades? I would add these parts:
1.Bigger injectors
2.Adjustable FPR
3.Fuel pump
4.MSD ignition
5.Apexi S-AFC
6.Dyno time
I am a long way off from building a short block and collecting all the parts I need for a full turbo set up. The parts I listed could be used in the auto-x class I'm going to run this year.
Thanks for the look.

dont worry about " gaining " hp .. just switch the spark plugs and whatnot out anyway ... it wont hurt ... and you MAY need a few more items for boost if your tryin to boost an older a1 integ motor ..

The only thing lacking up there is a new clutch. 8)

Caught me here too!
Yeah, I installed an Exedy clutch already. It's not the best, but it should hold for awhile.

yea if you wanna boost at like 5psi all the time ... if you wanna crank the boost ... get a new cam , lower your cp ratio , and get a turbo exhaust ... along with your fuel and ignition upgrades you should be good ... good luck finding a turbo kit for a a1 old school integ

I wouldn't bother with any of those upgrades right now. They are a waste until you get the turbo in place. Personally, I wouldn't lower the compression, just be more diligent in tuning it.
Also, any d-series turbo kit should bolt right up to the d16a1 teg. However you may have to get creative with the fuel management. Do you even have saturated injectors, or are they peak and hold?

There are two cams in the D16A1. The stock cams are great for boost. No trouble with 10psi daily driven and stock internals.

I wouldn't worry about your clutch. Those clutches can take some abuse. I was surprised after all the abuse I put mine through. The only thing to worry about with that clutch is how much hp it can hold. It will last, but it won't hold much more than ~200whp, from my experience anyways.

:D i still had the stock clutch in my car and just recently when i racing i went from first back to grab second and when i let out on the clutch it made a very nasty noize. to my surprize when i went to stop and depressed the clutch it did not disingage so i figured my slave cylinder fell off or something stupid but every thing seemed to be fine untill i got home and pulled the tranny  a very large pile of dust fell onto the floor and after further looking i found the only thing left of the clutch was the dust on the ground and the little metal center piece :D so i now have a 6puck clutch and enjoy it very much and have had verry little trouble with it

Stock Honda ignition is good for 300+ hp so unless you are planning for more than that, you don't need MSD or any of that other stuff. Thats if you keep the MPFI, Carbed Honda's perform better with the aftermarket igniton.
Just replace anything that need be and it would be a good idea to throw in some new NGK spark plugs.

thats what i was thinkin ... you dont need to start fucking with your ignition and all that .. especially on a 300 or less hp D motor ...
