While this thing is way too big for the dash of a honda I'm thinking something roof mounted. I have 3 laptops that I picked up from work that I have the guts to play with and I'm seriously thinking about dvd in my ride..

Gut the screen to the basics and what you lot think?

I'm going to do a feasability test with a friend this afternoon and see if he's up to the task of doing all the cabling for me. Basically looking at building a high spec laptop into the car and a big ass monitor in the roof, play PC games/ wireless keyboard and mouse in the armrest...........I'm not up for Ps2 just yet.

I'd love to go with something like what bizzar has, but way out of my league

Flat, just fiberglass a custom mount for it in the passenger door....so you can see it from the driver seat.....or....put it in the middle of the back seat so you can see it in your mirror. Just an idea....

I got it on my car but it's a 7.2" detachable on the dash. I thought about it on the roof for the rear but i dont like it if it isnt detachable. The rear has a 5.6" on a goose neck.

Yeah, Ill have a small touch screen mounted on my dash (when I get the chance). What you can do is mount your pc (laptop, modded xbox, etc) somewhere in the truck. Then just run the cable to the external monitor on your dash. Should work fine. What you will need is a 12v convertor. As long as your pc battery will last long enough, you can run the pc in your car. It will charge the battery while your car is on, but when your car is off you want it to go into "standby" mode and run off the laptop battery. In turn you can hook up a FM tramsmittor (of hard wire it in) to your in-dash radio. Kind of a ghetto Ipod, but with pc funtionality.

I would modify the dash like mabey above the glove box, make a custom trim for the screen and mount it on some glides have it pull out horizontal with the car and fold up. The glove box can fold down with the key board mouse ect. Mite not fit and your probly looking at quite a bit of work but it would be kick ass!

i have a 12in laptop screen it will fit perfectly in the dash or where the ac stuff is. i take it you guys havent seen this site mp3car (http://mp3car.com/). that site has it all. you can program your computer to gps, display all your stuff on your car aka speed, rpm, ect. also wireless internet. all sorts of stuff. they call it a carputer.

Thanks guys..............so much freaking ideas.......well it's do-able, the biggest mission is fabbing brackets to hold it to the roof section, I want it 100% stealth when it's done. I'm gonna pull apart the other two laptops when I get a chance and see about adding a big assed HD with a CD rom up front. Will keep you lot updated.

If this is pulled directly from a laptop, then you will have tons of trouble hooking it up. If it is a stand-alone LCD, then you can use standard VGA (Usually the Blue connector) to hook it up.

The reason why you cannot take just any laptop screen and plug it in is because it needs 1)Power Source via inverter and 2) An external controller which is 90% of the time housed on the actualy motherboard of the laptop. It is not impossible however, just not very cost effective. EarthLCD sells inverters and controllers for around $500 a set, depending on your application.

GL with this project though, it should turn out sweet!

It's pulled off a laptop, but I still have the rest of the internals that are needed in order to make it work. Will just have to do some extending. I'm actually looking at swapping the whole lot for a standalone LCD.........8" or 7"........way more easier...
