Does anyone have any suggestions on the best hydro tranny to use on a turbo d16?

Uh,...the Si. I have heard of some people with small amounts of power getting better E/T's with the DX/VX/CX tranny because of less shifts. I think they hit the traps in 2nd gear lol. If you have more power than the average N/A motor I would suggest the Z6/Si tranny.

Here is my favorite tranny page in the whole world. Mista Bone. 8)

it depends if u want to run slicks and what size.i ran into this problem earlier this year.i was running the si tranny but with some 20in slicks the gears were way too short.so i went to a cx tranny which are real long on the street but on slicks it runs good.gears are still shorter but long enough to get full boost.

y8 or z6/si tranny would be best assuming near stock wheel size.

thats what i was thinkin ... a y8 tranny in a dx would do good .. escpecially that y8 tranny with a y7/y8 swap ...

Something with the longest gears possible. If your making any real power you don't want to be wasting time rowing gears and trying to build boost again after the shift.

I agree with danl, if you are make A LOT of power, you'd be better off with a non-Si transmission... hopefully with limited slip.

i accually have a factory 1991 5spd transmission that will do 90mph at rev limiter in 2nd, its really weird cause my first tranny was 62mph in 2nd. its slow but im doin a turbo set up in the car so im not to woried about that and if you were wondering my 5th gear does 230 mph. i think i have the tranny number i have to check it out. reply if you know what civic its from

Keep in mind that even the EX/SI trannies have long gears compared to b-series engines. IIRC, the EX/SI tranny is comparable to the LS tranny.

I'm going to use a Quaifed DX for my turbo daily driver. With and engine that revs to 7200RPM (Sleeved 77mm Y8 block/Z6 stage 2/3 head), 18g turbo, 10:1 comp, I should hit close to 70 mph in 2nd and 95 mph in third.

I want to keep the revs down when on the highway... Plus avoid shifting and wasting boost when on the street.
Finally, with the hondata, I can set the VTEC point low enough that it stays on even shifting on a DX tranny...

seriously putin a 18g turbo on a 1.6 is going to have so much turbo lag that you will want to be shifting at around 6 just to stay in your power band thats why alot of guys are going with a smaller turbo like a t 25 or even a 14g because they spool faster and have less turbo lag at a high rpm

if your into serious racing you would want a tranny that would hit redline the moment you pass a 1/4 mile , that would be the most ideal tranny

personaly, i like my 98 cx tranny... i'll be cruisin at 100 km/h in FOURTH and not realize it!! i'll be like "hot damn i didnt even hear the engine runnin" and thats with my resonator off!!

altho i owuldnt mind having a shorter first gear... just the first!!!

i also would suggest contacting a reputable transimssion guru, sit down with him, figure out what ratios you want and go make a junkyard tranny that does EXACTLY what you want it to do in what gear.

Don't Agree with that. The 18g is just a tiny bit bigger than a t3 super 60. Also my motor has slightly higher compression/displacement...

I expect full boost by 4000-4500 rpm...
I'll see soon... but I've looked into this a lot and I think the Mitsu turbos are great, and should help make my car fast... and unique...

WHICH Y7 tranny??????

The 4.058 FD unit might be OK, the 3.722 unit would SUCK.

DX/LX
1st-----3.250
2nd-----1.762
3rd-----1.172
4th-----0.909
5th-----0.702
Final Drive---4.058

But the Civic Y7 HB's got the long ass 3.722 FD.......

I've been driving my NA D16Z6 on a old DX tranny which has the same ratios and FD as above.

3-4 shift is nice, but that is the ONLY gain.

I switched from a y7 tranny to a y8 and have loved every minute of it. I noticed the biggest difference in 3rd as my car pulls so much harder.

thats what im thinkin of doing ... switching from y7 auto --> y8 5spd with LSD ... i think that would be alot funner ... :)
