I got a Y7 engine with y8 IM & CAI, 4-2-1 header and 2 1/8 exhaust.
I want to build up home made turbo setup, I'll share my part list to buy soon:
- Custom manifold with flange for turbo & waste gate
( a small one, I want not much lag & don't need 25psi )
- turbo/wastegate/BOV and maybe FMU from scrapyard
- Custom piping & downpipe
- FPR
- Hoses, pipes, fitting and more
- Boost gage
- Arp cranck & rod studs
- Maybe an intercooler
- Maybe an oil cooler
- custom line to bypass Map sensor
- Eagles forged rod
- Arias pistons with dish
- Lightened flywheel about 12lbs
- A good clutch & pressure plate !
Does this setup is good ? reliable if it'll installed properly ?
If somethings is missing say it please !!!
I want a less expensive turbo setup than possible, if you know cheaper parts that will cost me less than those one, tell it to me please !!!! :)
Well, at how PSI could I run setup like that ?
Also how many WHP could I expect ?
I want to kill mustang, vr6, 1.8t and B series :) :) :)
Thanx a lot again guys !!! :D

dont forget greddy turbo timer ( $99 ) and and the APEX digital super AVC type r ( boost & fuel management $200+ ) those are a must , and maybe think about some new valve retainers and springs + turbo cam ? turbo exhaust ? fm intercooler? dont ya think u need these things for turbo ? i mean why build it if you nor gonna build it right .. thats why im not puttin boost on my y7 yet ... its not ready for boost ... in a few months though .... that'll be a different story .. :)

I want less eletronic as possible, easier to tune, cost less ... I don'T care if I don't get +30WHP with those things, I want a very simple setup ...
Why a turbo timer ?
Thanx

why not ? its only 99 bucks ... its Greddy ... it help mantain longevity of a boosted motor, ESPECIALLY a honda motor ... it lets the engine idle for a bit after u take the key out and turn off the car .. and it lets your turbo cool down .. its a good hundred dollar investment , especially if you gonna get boosted !

turbo timer a very good investment...cooked oil is not good, turbo will die fast otherwise from caked crap in the bearings (unless you remember to idle the car like 30-60 sec EVERY time after you drive it to let it circulate and cool)

OH yeah !! I remember seen it into Eagle talon .. I don't know that was called turbo timer, I thinked that turbo timer was timer on 'time boost' ... then I see more clearely :) thanx for that ! :)
Well, someone can answer to questions about my first message ?
thanx !

well, low comp. pistons, forged rods. i'd have to say i'd be mad if it ran less than 250whp. oh yea, get a damn intercooler. dsm sidemount always makes a nice fender well stuffer.

and also, that 250whp is with the right injectors and a 255lph fuel pump. walbro's kick ass cause they're cheap.

Sooooooo.....your going to build this motor with forged internals and you "might" run an intercooler and you are using an FMU? How much boost do you plan on running with this FMU? If you only planning on running the safe amount for an FMU(6-8psimax.), building the internals is a waste of money. If you are serious and you plan on running boost higher than 8psi, you will need more than an FMU. You might hate electronics, but they are the best thing you could ever buy. It sounds like you have some more research to do. What size turbo do you plan on running? Internal or external wastegate? How much boost?

like i said , some people just arent ready for turbo ...

Yes, you're right , some people aren't ready for turbo, but taking information is the first step, second is to do A FIRST TURBO PROJECT... whatever the way that blow in my face 2 weeks later, I DON'Tcare, i'll get knowledge & experience... true or not ?
I'm just picking some info, I ever built some engines yet, and it's time for turbo.... I'll think that have enough experience & formation ( I'm machinist & Electromecanic ) to do my first turbo project...
I only want some tips to do better, not comment like that ...
Thanx

very true ... sorry for my comment, it just seems like your tryin to take the easy route to getting turbo ... and thats not always the safest or best ... and yea gettin info is the 1st step ... but also having an understanding of whats ahead , is also needed ... which i think u lack , but thats why we are trying to help you, so u dont make a bad decision ... like not gettin electronics, that are specially made for turbo applications, when u turbo ur car ... u may not want to mess with the little devices with all the numbers ... but all those things are needed to help mantain the motor .. just trying to help !

Thank you ! It's for that reason that I would that simpliest way for my first turbo project !! I'll maybe put this project away for some times ago, but I'll do it later !! I don't know when I'll do that ... I'm collecting again some info about it and if is VERY too difficult to make and tune I'll be waiting again & again...
'to be continued' !
Thanx again for your tips !

instead of spending "only" $100 on a turbo timer, get a set of 450cc injectors and try to find a cheap afc or something.
Let the car run for a minute before you shut it of. Is it that hard?

WHATS an air fuel controller and injectors gonna do for cooling down the turbo ?

I think he means instead of using that piece of shit FMU.
Belette
12-05-2003, 04:53 AM
why FMU is a bullsh*t ?
How works AFC , how do you tune that ?
Largers injectors will work without fmu ?
evilfred

The bigger injectors and s-afc is another fuel management possibility.
and Insead of using apex-i s-afc you can also go with the smc
I connot find the link .... but it is cheaper than s-afc

I'll have a set of used Arias 8:0 pistons for sale soon. Right now they are still in the engine so I don't know their condition but compression is still good. And I live in Montreal et je parle francais ;)
Just e-mail me if you want. Civic_Tsi@hotmail.com

I don't know yet, probably not more than $150. Sorry, no rods.
Belette

Yeah, it's good deal, but I'll maybe put turbo project away for some times ago, I'll tune up my engine N/A instead turbo for now ...
if you have a set of pistons about 11:1 ratio I'm preneur :)
thanx
