I have had no rear speakers in my EG sedan for awhile now and its time to have some again. I took off the grilles yesterday and noticed that I have no brackets or anything in there. Just the hole and 3 holes. What size are the stock speakers in the rear of an EG sedan? Are there supposed to be brackets? Some one help me out.

no brakets needed.... i have kenwoods - 6.5"

they sound great and screw right in!
go to crutchfield.com and type in your car's year, make, model and you can access charts that tell you what sizes fit, and it will even show you a list of what speakers they sell specifically for your car.

then take those speaker model names, copy them, then open up froogle.com and paste them - find the cheapest ones, then order! (thats what i did).

Install is medium - SHOULD be easy because you can access the screws from underneath the deck inside the trunk - but when you pop off the grille covers, the carpeting of the back shelf runs underneath those grille covers - kinda covers part of the speaker hole which is recessed.

so i had to take some high-density scissors to cut through that thick carpeting to gain better access to the hole. the carpeting isn't standard carpeting either - its backed by cardboard or something - so you need tough scissors to cut through some of it. 6.5" speakers will fit without adapters though.

thanks for the info...i tried putting in a set of old 6.5" speakers for fitment and the rim was too big. maybe just me. Did you put any fowm or anything between the speaker and the shelf?

The stock rear speaker kit used 5.25" speakers. I sold my kit with my JBL's to someone in Winnepeg CAN last year.

no, mine just fit right in. perhaps you cannot just use any 6.5" speaker - some have different baskets and stuff.

like i said, i went off of crutchfield's fitment chart and ordered from that. and mine fit fine. i got a set of $100 kenwoods that work and sound great. the ONLY modification i had to do was cut back some of that stupid carpet/cardboard stuff on the rear shelf as it covered part of the speaker opening and made it difficut to access the OEM speakers.

but yeah, the 6.5's fit with no adapters or foam or anything else - they simply laid on top of the cutouts, lined up with the holes and all...

hope that helps. (FYI every resource i could find says that OEM size back there WAS 6.5".... 5.25" is on the front doors).

and for the record i'm talking about the '92-'95 sedan...

ABT has pretty much summed it all up. There will be some that don't fit without a little bending and drilling of new wholes like i had to do to fit a set of MTX 6.5 there.

I used the stock brackets with the bottoms cut out to fit the bigger aftermarket magnet. 6.5? i thought it was 6"

I know the fronts are 6.5", i have some shitty pioneers in there but they get the job done for now. Im getting a deal with Sony through a local shop so all my products will be Sonys.

in the sedan it's a 5 1/4 straight drop in. but a spacer can easily be made, bought to take a 6 1/2.
