i was installing a new pioneer deck (replacing my old Sony), and i hadn't finalized the connections as i was testing it to make sure it worked before i permanently installed it.
well i forgot to tape up one of the connections (happend to be constant power yellow), and it zapped on the metal frame that surrounds the radio opening... the radio was not sitting in the deck at the time, but was plugged in...
after that happened, it won't turn on - nothing. i checked the fuse on the power lead for the radio, checked the constant on fuse (the line that touched), and it was fine.... even checked the fuse on the fuse panel (10A), and it was fine.
so no fuses were blown yet i get no power...
so i tried hooking up my old Sony deck to see if i blew up the new pioneer, but the old sony deck won't work now either. so i must have jacked something up somewhere but i don't know what else to check! please help!

It's definitely your power supply.
Try running a new wire to a different power source on your fuse box.

the power supply runs through the factory radio harness...
i separated and re-connected the wires.... and it still doesn't work. any other ideas? (EDIT: i did this to both the red (ignition) and yellow (constant) power lines.....)

hook it right up to the battery terminals to be sure it still works, that should have blown a fuse though

it's kind of bootleg, but....
cut the power lines from the radio out of it's wire harness. On your fuse box, there should be spade-terminals to run aftermarket accessories (these terminals are a switched power source). Plug your radio into one of those.
But... first go ahead and make sure it powers up by hooking it straight up to your battery.
It very likely that you melted a wire when you shorted it out and you need to run a new one.

so do i need to run a new red (ignition) power wire or yellow (constant on) wire?
and thanks a lot!

ok, i found the problem - blown 7.5 amp back up light fuse under the hood... for some reason that affects radio usage.
anyway, replaced that, but even when i run video wire directly to ground, i cannot see video. (the parking brake thing)... to bypass that i am running it straight to ground - yet the video screen still gives the "cannot view video while driving" line. even if i pull the e-brake up, i get the same problem.
why is that? the deck is a pioneer DVH-P5700...

park switch or some shit
yeah i know, but even when i tried hooking it up to the parking brake, it still says i can't watch video while driving.... when you ground it it is supposed to bypass that - my last pioneer deck (a non-screen model that plays DVDs) played it either way when i grounded the video output cable...

why are you trying to put a movie theatre in your car?

personal preferrence really - i don't watch but i like to listen to movies while driving. seriously. my last 2 in-dash dvd players were non-screen unit... i'd have a separate screen somewhere else merely to see menu options and to play the dvd.
call me weird, i know... i just like to listen.
anyway, i got this unit for the vehicle dynamics processor and GPS and stuff.... but it sucks i cannot even get the DVD to appear when the parking brake is UP so i can never navigate the DVD menu options to get the dang thing to start playing really.

Ok, if I'm not mistaken... the LONG green wire is for the parking brake (at least it is on my Clarion deck, can't wait to install!). When grounded it will allow the dvd to play on screen. You said something about a video output you grounded? I hope that was a typo, you NEVER want to ground an output from deck/amp/etc. ALL unused outputs should be capped off. If you need the manual, let me know and I'll see if we have an extra at the shop, but I'm pretty sure it's a very long, solid almost-neon-green wire.

yeah, its the light-green wire. i don't know what you call it so i said "video output" - my bad lol
i ended up taking it to a car audio shop in all my anger and being tired of it - turns out pioneer put this stupid new feature on their DVD decks - you have to engage parking brake, disengage, then re-engage to get it to play video - i guess they were doing that to get around people just grounding that light green wire.
anyway the guy at the shop hooked it up to a toggle switch for me - so now i have to toggle it up, down, up to get it to play video.
weird and stupid, but at least its working.

I used to do that for some customers but it is real big liability for your shop so I would make them sign an invoice saying the wire was connected to the E brake and then charge them between $100 - $500 to bypass it depending on the total cost of the install. They paid it too. They were alot of alpines so you have to use a combination of a toggle switch and a momentary. It was like flip on then off push the button then back on. Anyway easy money.
