hey guys,
my speakers rattle in the front doors of my '93 civic sedan. its annoying... they were "professionally" installed, and i watched them do it so i know they were done correctly. now, to rectify this problem...
do i need bass blockers? dynamat? better speakers? Eq adjustment? the head unit is an old Sony CD player, the speakers are new Bazooka 5.25" coaxial units (i know i know, but they were free, and are better than the stock paper ones).
obviously someone else here has put speakers in their doors before and had rattling... i'm new to the honda scene, so i'm still rather unfamiliar with all the quirks of the cars.
thanks for the input...

im suggesting dynamat. If it just started rattling and they been installed for a while then the screws that hold it in could have vibrated loose so it rattles. tightening them up should help. If not then dynamat would help immensely.

It can also be the back of the cone hitting the magnet when big bass hits. all depends on the kind of rattle

yeah that is what i thought it was... the rattling mainly happens when the bass hits...
i don't have a sub yet so i have to compensate by pushing these poor 5.25" units in the doors.
the sony cd player is one of those old ones that has a "D-bass" knob on the plate that you can switch between 1,2, and 3. and it magnifies the bass output everywhere. only problem is "1" is too much bass and "0" is absolutely no bass...

put it on 0 and add the bass through the menu. that way it will add it but it wont be D-Bass (dynamic). Its kinda like the loudness button on your home stereo.

If they're not blown and you want to get creative, make your own mounting rings. Takes about 3-4 hours. Still curious if it's just a rattle, or that infamous crackle of a fried voice coil.

if there running off an amp make sure you HP them. Also best way to stop rattles will be sound deadening. In a couple of weeks i'm going to be spending 600-800 on getting my front doors deadened to all buggery :D

how do you spend 800 bucks on de-rattling a door!??!! whoa!
my speakers are being run off the headunit, so they aren't being pushed too hard, thats for sure.
and i don't think they're fried either because they are brand new... that and i don't really listen to my music that loud. it is just loose, vibrating something somewhere i'm sure.
i will try to dynamat some of it.
thanks guys.

lemme know what happens with the dynamat. I might need some of that in the near future.

when your into SQ install is everything :)
Take off your door skin and crank up your system and see if you can spot the rattles yourself. That way you can take appropriate action instead of getting someone to deaden the entire door. But if you want the lovely increase in midbass that you'll get from deadened doors go for it man!!

It's usually not OVERpowering the speakers that blows them, it's underpowering them. Your head unit probably runs 13-17 watts RMS (normal volume) and 48-52 watts peak (cranked levels). Most good quality speakers of your size require 40-50 watts RMS. Would seriously recommend a small 2-channel amp to run them. After you get the rattle gone :)

here here! With more power you will be given more control :)

I spent about R2500/ $560 on sound deadening..........truck, trucnk lid, roof front/rear doors, rear deck, floors, firewall.........as nedge said..........in SQ comps, a little rattle can lose you 1st place..........
best part is...........on the highway, it's DEAD quiet..........
