Now this is a real email, from a real soldier. It's in no way propaganda. I am also in no way saying this is representative of all of our troops. All I am doing is posting a real email, from a real soldier, that I found to be a good, truthful read.
( I left the spelling errors in... gotta keep it real ;) )
love it. so yeah, im in the army (joined when i thought gore was a shoe-in and war wasnt thinkable) and i just got back from iraq.....and it really sucked. i never wanted this war....a lot of soldiers died not wanting anything to do with this war... i chose to go because i wanted to be there for my team and see everything first hand. i'm back and i dont know what to think....the pretense, obviously still bullshit...but i direcly worked with iraqis and talked with them on the streets...iraqis who believed in what we we're doing and many of them risked their lives and died for a chance for them and theirs to live like we do one day( its better than anything they've had, at least) . it was a lot easier for me to oppose this before i started working with the iraqis....bahh, i have a lot of confusion and a lot of questions that wont be answered anytime soon. i did what i could to help them and stay alive.and now its time, along w/ 40% of my division, to get the fuck out of the army.
one of the things im certain of is the fact that my involvement there inspired the growth of terrorism and probably will continue to strengthen it for yrs to come....it was such a bad idea to fight their fire with our fire...how the hawks convinced themselves...or rather a comfortable portion of the pop that this was the only solution, is beyond me. this freedumb propaganda is nauseating and sad and i wish people would wake up and see how much shit we're in now.

I would just like to point out that the year before W was elected, me and several other members of a car audio forum were ready to put down money that he would make shit country a political shithole and would most assuredly go to war. :( It wasnt as if everyone couldnt see it coming either. But hey, I like our new deficit and the fact that I'm paying twice for gas what I did several years ago.

what would that solve? you're willing to throw away all the sacrafices already made? now THAT would be an insult to every person that has given their life to defend this country to this point. You can't back out now. They need to finish what they started

i'll clarify, when i said get out of iraq, i meant finish the job quickly, because i believe the longer they stay, the more chance for negative feelings and actions.
leaving is not throwing away all the sacrifices imo, it's preventing many more.
i dont see it as insulting to the fallen at all, i think saving lives would be better than having more casualties. i know you dont agree with my views, and i respect where youre coming from, but i just think this is dragging on way too long, and i think the troops are in a very bad position, and that things may get worse.
i really hope this gets settled soon, you may be more up to date on things right now because i stopped paying close attention to the war in iraq, but when are they planning on leaving? like 6 months, 6 years, do they have an exit plan, or date?

that changes everything then... misunderstanding on my part

I thought we did finish what we started...we removed Saddam. The UN needs to finish the job. The US shouldnt be the only superpower contributing to the overhaul of a country.

well considering all the factors..and whos over there..and that they are building hard bases in the local area and for us..
its a 1 year short tour...we will be there to occupy for a long time..
I have a feeling this is going to be like a korea tour..but hotter!
I know for a fact that rex and I and many others have lots friends maybe family over there. But I will ask now..for what? We as a country should step back and let them try to fend for themselves. With help from the UN and other organizations like that, that are in place to do those things.
There are much more important things I could be doing right now...
What about the "war on drugs" things back home that need more attention?

there is still a threat of terrorism in Iraq. we can't leave until they are able to deter the terrorists on their own. This is not a "war on Iraq", its part of the larger "war on terror"; it just happens to be happening within the Iraqi borders

You ever seen that sign in a store "You break it, you bought it..." Well, we are in the mess and there is no easy fix... I serously doubt that any of our allies that our government liked to talk about help bail us out... They are all smarter than that...

Or would they just laugh there asses off? Seriously, I would like a real answer. Maybe some of our overseas D-series.org members can give us there opinions.

I agree with you DOG, I think we go way too far out of the way to help others when we should be fixing what needs fixing here. BUT we already started this, and now we need to finish it. I don't agree one bit how they are going about it, but its too late to change that now IMO.
I respect your opinion chasloa, and will I agree that we cant just leave this clusterfuck unfinished. Its frustrating for all of us.

Leaving now, with the situation being as unstable as it is, could possibly turn Iraq into another Korea. We really don't need that, especially after so many people made so many sacrifices to get the country into the shape that it's in now. Maybe our reasons for being over there in the first place are far from right, but we might as well finish what we started, and do it right.

that would suck to have to go do a remote there ...now they are taking all our money and giving it to the army...we got like all these budget cuts on base, now we used to have 3 or 4 trucks to work out of now we have 1...sucks. Also whoever asked what happens when we go broke....we're already there...been there look at our national debt...we owe money to china for buying from them and others. China is N koreas ally aren't they? No wonder we don't mess with them...that would screw us financially :p

And here's what makes it even worse. Iraq is fast becoming the next training ground for terrorism much like Afghanistan is/was. Insurgents are rolling into Iraq, learning how to fight against our boys and the ones that survive are leaving the country to train the next batch on their way in. Unfortunately its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

You know why there is terrorism in Iraq? Because the US is there. There were no (that I know of) active acts of terrorism before the US invaded Iraq. So if you follow my logic....if we leave, the terrorism will stop.

I respectfully disagree
I'm not willing to make assumptions like that.... and neither will our leaders
It's easy for you to say, but they have a lot more responsibility reg the matter than you.

Boy I don't even want to touch that one...do a little research, even a couple simple Google searches. I think you'll find a whole lot more "active acts of terrorism" than you originally bargained for.

rrrrrrrright.
Al Qaeda was there before the war started. the terrorists attack where the Americans are. Thats why there were no terrorist "attacks" there before the war. the terrorists were there, but not attacking themselves.
If you wanted to go so far, you could say Saddam, one of the greatest terrorists, was "attacking" his people for years. It doesn't have to be against americans to be a terrorist act.
