I have had it in for 3 weeks now, and it's been acting gay for a few days, but really showed it's self yesterday.

I've been noticing a lethargic feeling to the motor. Like theres NO power up top, or anything. It's like driving a DX, or worse. Takes forever to reach redline now, even in 1st gear. It's acting like the day that I retarded the timing ALL THE WAY on the dizzy, that day, a 3 cylinder Metro kept up with me, no lying, didn't pass it until 3rd gear.

Yesterday Im driving, and spot a EM1, so I gun it, after I see him driving aggressively after noticing my car. I hit second, and it took FOREVER just to hit stock D16Z6 redline. Now, I get to a light, and gives him a signal to run, he agrees. Then I look down, and I now I have an oil light, AND a check engine light. That gives me the reason that the car is slower, but why? The car has felt like ass for a few days, yet the only CEL was yesterday, and it never came back. The car is still being gay today, idle is all screwy, and the oil light was coming on as the idle swayed. It has already been adjusted to 1000 RPM warm. Also, I can hear HAMSTERTEC but it's still no power up there.

I swear to God, if I have to put yet another lump in this car, I'm drive it off a bridge. That will D16Z6 no.3! You can't possibly mod/or swap when parts are going as soon as something gets replaced. Add to that my (SECOND) tranny grinds bad, and hatch Si tranny's like mine or even EX are hard to find here, so that means a DX tranny (SHUDDER)!

Anyways, what the deal with my damn motor?

it will affect the vtec and such...
could be a timing problem too.
run the codes
if they're not there, go with basic troublshooting
fouled plugs, bad cap and rotor,etc.

Dude, thats sooo wierd. I know what your saying. I was at a stop light the other day when a dude in a civic pulled up next to me. I thought everything was fine until my z6 started actually hitting on the other car! I was so embaressed, I was like "damn, why do I have to have the ONLY gay civic in town"......glad to see their are more, maybe we should get them together!!!

I've gotten more CEL's today, along with more oil lights. Pulling to stock Z6 redline in 1st feels how pulling to 8700 felt in 3rd on the first engine. This things definetely "swishy". Also, the "rotten egg" smell is stronger after hitting redline now, and the CEL comes on after 6000 RPM. It cuts off when the car is off, then a redline later, it's back. I have problems getting to 90 MPH!

I'm taking it to shop today, and since my taxes came back today, I may get a B16A, or even a ZC with cams, or if this Z6 stops being gay, a turbo kit and this used 50 shot kit. I'll post up what the probs are.

Anyone ever noticed how D15B's take the abuse, but D16's don't, especially VTEC ones?

There are several possibilties number1 dont take the engine to 9K the valvetrain cant handle it stay under 8K. Second the rotten egg smell could possibly be your cat going bad, and clogging. which would rob you of alot of power. Drop the cat and check to see if its clogged. #3 also since your oil pressure light was one. check to make sure you have sufficient oil pressure (becuase if not no vtec )

true the main bearing wont last to long with out adequate oil pressure. (the general rule of thumb is you need AT LEAST 10 psi for every 1K rpm so at about 7K you should read at least 70psi (a healthy engine usually reads almost 90psi btw))

If your oil pressure is low, might as well budget for a rebuild.

Thats a serious issuse unless it already has gauged the hell out of the bearing..
and its going to start making some serious noise soon if you dont fix it...

Oh, this is a DIFFERENT D16Z6 than the one taken to 9K RPM. This is has been on stock ECU the whole time. I mean, same head, diff block.

After going to the shop, and the code NOT coming up, hell on it. I went to a local shop, and someone with a CRX wants/ actually need my Z6, so it's his, and someone with a Z6/CX tranny wants my Si hatch tranny it his. They can have the shit. The motor will be out by the time it fucks up, and the tranny will be out before the grinding get *MUCH* worse.

The shop was gonna give me free labor for my Z6 on a OBD1 ZC swap, but the supplier
didn't have axles or ECU for the ZC.

How dare you bad rep me. THIS IS NOT THE SAME MOTOR, AND IT HAS NOT EVEN SEEN THE STOCK CUT-OFF, and IT HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN WITH A P28 ECU, I SOLD THE PR3 WHEN I TOOK THE LAST LUMP OUT. NO PR3 = No 8000 + RPM.

SO, HOW CAN THE CAR NOT BE ACTING GAY WITH STOCK ECU?

again this motor has only seen the stock redline.

Oi...........I gave you neg rep cause you seem to be one of the guys that want a quick fix, either drop in a B16a or a ZC or worst yet drop money down on naws or a turbo on a motor that doens't seem to be going well as it is...........funny that your Z6 is :fag: , but many others in here swear by it................

What's wrong with a turbo/nitrous Z6?

Also, I'm not calling the Z6 a gay motor, it's okay for what it is. I'm saying that mine is acting gay. It's running like it's a CX motor.

Code 22 is what came up. VTEC oil pressure! Yay! Odd thing is, I can hear VTEC, car feels weak, but you can hear the "sucking" noise from the intake stop when VTEC comes in.

low oil pressure will kill vtec and your motor, my z6 had a major problem that i resolved by taking the motor to 8400 rpm.






it blew. and i was happy after my d15b swap then the light went away. beating the hell out of the motor shouldnt matter, its how you care for it before and after that matters.

Well, this thing just needs to last long enough for me to buy the rest of my parts for my B16A. The bastards tooks alot of shit off of it, so I gotta ride their asses to get my shit, like the TPS, dizzy, ect, and then buy a clutch.

I would have kept the D16Z6, but I refuse to build YET another one, that will be number 3, and after thousands of dollars (I've already spent over 2 grand on D trannies, and engines, and labor) I will still be stock, I know some of you can agree with that? I mean this motor hasn't been beaten, and it still might go out? I can't justify putting another motor that will have me running high 16's, for the 3rd time. That, and also I will need a another tranny. If I put out more than stock power this tranny is dead, yet more to replace to stay STOCK.

1.5's seem to be better. My old CRX DX went from Hamilton to Cincy without an oil cap on a 95 degree day, and I was "racing" around. Smoke was billowing out of the hood, but a quick replacement was all that was needed. It NEVER EVER me problems.

Hmmm. maybe I should convert to D15B2 DPFI cable tranny...
