Hey I have all factory gear head unit, changer (it is cheap...read free) anyhow all of the sudden I have all but lost the left channel (the treble is there but no bass or mid sounds). I took resistance and continuity readings across EVERYTHING! I have no shorts, my speakers all are at 4ohms, the wires are no more than .05ohms end to end, and the speaker contacts on the back of the radio were all the same (left and right front and rear). I swapped all the speakers to all the positions the problem is strictly the left channel. Any ideas guys?

is it the left channel both front and rear or just the left on 1 speaker?

f+r= left channel. yeah both of them. oh and I don't have an amp either. is there any way I could test signal output from my head unit?

ive tested the output using voltage readings but they vary as the bass hits and highs and so on. does your head unit have a fuse on it? i know most aftermarket head units have fuses for the left and right channels. i had a left channel that was bad but it was on a amp.

hmmm....no leads as of yet. i havent had to troubleshoot many OEM headunits. what have you used to test the output? cd, radio etc.

it is both cd and radio output.

you might of possibly shorted or blown either the input or output stage for the left channel within the unit. So basically not really worth repairing. Time for an aftermarket deck :D

It sounds like a filter capacitor has gone out in the player. You can test with some DMM's look for one w/a cap testor. You will have to remove the cap before testing.

so what you are saying is just go buy a a/m deck and be done with it.....

yeap. Not much use in repairing the stock deck. You'll get a little nicer sound outta an a/m deck also. Otherwise if you know anyone that is good with this sorta stuff get them to have a look at it. They'll probably tell you it's not worth it unless it's something very simple.
